A day out with the class proves an important bonding moment for them all in episode 3 of Skip and Loafer titled “Fluffy Crackle.”

A chance encounter with another classmate, Kurume Makoto, an extremely shy and introverted girl, runs into Mitsumi and quickly finds herself put at ease by her personality. With the help of Shima, Mitsumi manages to get her outside to have drinks.

Opening up even further, Kurume invites Mitsumi to the theatres. Still, the invitation quickly opens up to even more people and becomes a class bonding moment as everyone dresses up and goes out for lunch and a movie.

3. Recap of Episode 3:

Mitsumi walks to the Students Council Office and plans the entire thing out, overthinking even a very optimistic future. She finds that she was beaten to the office by another student, Kurume Makoto, who is also overthinking the entire scenario to the top right in front of the door.

Mitsumi, Shima, and Murashige approach her and trigger her anxiety even more because they are the three people she wants to avoid most after the first day of school. Their arrival is quickly wasted once they realize the student government doesn’t recruit members.

However, there is a chance for them to join the support group instead. Mitsumi gets to see the senior’s planner on how she’s allocated her time and balanced studies and work. Before Kurume gets to exit, Mitsumi approaches her and invites her to a Starmax.

They enjoy their drinks, discuss joining the Tsubame society, and make small talk. She takes advantage of this situation to get Kurume’s contact information and even takes a selfie with the two of them to reply to Yuzuki’s message.

The next day at school, Kurume builds up the courage to invite Mitsumi to a movie. However, it quickly gets out of hand as multiple classmates join to watch the film. Mika has put all her effort into her outfit in order to stand out and look good but is quickly overshadowed by Yuzuki.

Feeling a bit jealous about how someone so pretty makes something simple look so good, Shima notices her feeling down and gives her a compliment, bringing her mood back up. As they all get to the theatre, Mitsumi sits between Yuzuki and Kurume, trying to get Shima to save her.

He doesn’t pick up on the message, but Mitsumi gets distracted by the popcorn, bringing the mood back to normal. During the movie, Kurume texts Yuzuki explaining her moodiness and opening up to her. The film ends with all of them much closer friends than it started.

4. About Skip and Loafer

Skip and Loafer is a manga by Misaki Takamatsu that was launched in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon magazine in August 2018. An anime adaptation is set to premiere in April 2023.

The manga focuses on Mitsumi who is from a backward area in Japan and moves to Tokyo for attending high school. Sosuke is an ikemen and he meets Mitsumi on her first day at the new school. Mitsumi is focused on her career, unaware of what the big city has in store for her.

Sosuke becomes quite fond of her and they become friends. It is a cute high school-based series with light-hearted comedy.
