Mitsu breezes through the summer break as quickly as it starts in episode 9 of Skip and Loafer, titled “Drowsy and Peppy.”

As most of the class visits their hometowns and families, Mitsu finally reunites with everybody in her small village, including her best friend, Fumi. With the days going by extremely fast, filled with fun and rejoicing and heart-to-heart talks, school comes too soon.

The first day was filled with friends reunited, and people transformed, some in relationships and some out. Some people seem closer, while others have drifted away, and Shima is in the latter group.

1. Episode 10 Speculation

The school festival is coming up, with an extremely large audience from all over the city. Mitsu and Shima’s class will host a play, something that Shima has experienced but has horrible trauma about.

He will likely try to exclude himself from the play entirely or something even more drastic. Mitsu is the only person in the class who can even try and understand him and see through the façade that he puts on. She will likely try and help him through this, as this play might be the best way to face his past head-on.

3. Recap of Episode 9

Early in the morning of summer break, Mitsu packs up and leaves for the train and she stays alert the entire journey to the airport. Smoothly boarding the plane and keeping everything in check, she lands safely but has to look back at the plane one last time.

Her family reaches the airport to receive her, and she makes her cool entrance with shades on but fools no one. Bringing home tons of souvenirs, she reunites with her grandma too and helps with her backyard cooking.

She serves food to the family and takes a sneaky bite before everyone else. She spends the rest of the day enjoying her relaxation time with her family before all the kids fall asleep together in the living room. She wakes up to her phone ringing the following day, and her best friend Fumi has already reached her doorstep.

As they walk together around the town and catch up on their lives, Fumi reveals that she’s now in a relationship making Mitsu jump with excitement. The night comes quickly, and all the childhood friends gather up once more with fireworks and hang out as they did so often in the past.

Eating homely watermelon and enjoying the peaceful quietness of her village, Mitsu finally feels at home. Fumi calls everyone to go to the beach, and they have a great time swimming and playing with crabs. However, the time eventually arrives when she must return to school again.

Shima is the first classmate she sees in the morning and considers it a good luck charm. She walks into class and meets up with all her friends again, exchanging cookies and snacks from their homes, but she also wants to give some to Shima but can’t find the right time.

After school, Mitsu runs through the hall spotting Shima and wants to give him some squid crackers from her hometown. She also talks about the council meeting she had where they discussed the upcoming festival and she can’t contain her excitement, but Shima can’t match the energy.

The words of Ririka continue to haunt Shima, who wants to join Mitsu in her excitement about everyday high school life but does not feel like he deserves it. The following day they decide upon what event their class will host, and they settle on a play, Shima’s Nightmare.

4. About Skip and Loafer

Skip and Loafer is a manga by Misaki Takamatsu that was launched in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon magazine in August 2018. An anime adaptation is set to premiere in April 2023.

The manga focuses on Mitsumi who is from a backward area in Japan and moves to Tokyo for attending high school. Sosuke is an ikemen and he meets Mitsumi on her first day at the new school. Mitsumi is focused on her career, unaware of what the big city has in store for her.

Sosuke becomes quite fond of her and they become friends. It is a cute high school-based series with light-hearted comedy.
