After the rollercoaster ride of last week’s episode, episode 7 of Shrinking might seem like a filler, but it actually showcased massive progress on Jimmy’s part. In the previous episode, Jimmy finally acknowledged his and Tia’s issues before her death. In this week’s episode, he even candidly conversed with her photograph after sleeping with Gaby.
Paul and Meg were also doing well, bonding over hot neurologists and even getting a father-daughter dance, but one misstep toppled all their hard work. Jimmy doesn’t know it, but his relationship with his daughter is also about to get worse.
The father-daughter bond difficulties aside, even though Sean may have found his calling, he might still face the same problems about getting hired again. So, what can we expect from next week’s episode of Shrinking?
1. Episode 8 Synopsis/Speculation
Paul and Brian come to Jimmy’s aid when Alice starts acting out. Liz and Sean support Gaby by accompanying her to an event.
Alice had just started trusting her dad again and relying on him more, but his betrayal at the party, outing her to Sean and now the reveal about sleeping with Gaby, will have her wary of her father again. She’s bound to voice her issues directly, and Jimmy will employ Paul & Brian’s help when she “acts out.”
If you’re wondering why Jimmy didn’t take Liz and Sean’s help, who are closer to his daughter, it’s because they had another call for help. Gaby needs accompaniment to an event, probably something where her ex-husband will make an appearance, and they’ll be with her.
Gaby and Jimmy may have brushed off their one-night stand after a few awkward encounters, but with Alice bringing it up again, it wouldn’t surprise me if they reopened the discussion.
Paul might be too busy with his troubles with Meg to help Jimmy, so we wish him the best of luck with the big decision that will soon be upon him – to abandon his practice and move out with Meg or up and leave his daughter again.

5. Episode 7 Recap
The morning after the party, everyone woke up with a hangover, but Gaby and Jimmy woke up to a full-blown panic meltdown after concluding they slept together. They lie to Alice, who is already too worked up over Sean’s rejection of her embarrassing attempt to kiss him last night.
Jimmy apologizes to Brian and Alice for the night before and later even apologizes to Gaby about making their one-night mistake such a big deal. Meanwhile, Paul turns Alice away to spend his day with Meg, and things are going well between the father & daughter.
But when Meg assumes Paul will come live with her family and Paul flippantly rejects the idea, she storms off, leaving Paul helplessly frozen and unable to move forward and stop her. Alice asks Sean to forget her confession, and he agrees, but his attempts to get a job are not as easily resolved.
Liz helps him find his passion in cooking with a helpful conversation and finds a way to come to terms with her husband’s retirement. Everyone gathers for Sean’s barbecue when Jimmy slips out to apologize to Tia’s photo, just like Gaby advised him to do. But little did he know, Alice overheard him talking to Tia, and her face openly showed her disappointment.
