The Boys, based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, premiered in 2019, and has since been known for its outlandish view on superheroes. Hughie Campbell, Billy Butcher, and their anti-superhero vigilante team fight with much fervor as they expose Vought International, a multibillion-dollar cartel that employs corrupt and abusive “Supers.”
It quickly garnered a reputation for being just as gory as its comic book predecessor after it premiered on Prime Video in 2019.
Executive Producer, Eric Kripke, has teased that the upcoming season has the “wildest” sequences anyone has ever shot for TV.
In an interview with SFX Magazine, Eric Kripke revealed more about the opening sequence of the upcoming season.
The showrunner deemed the first 15 minutes as the “craziest sequence” that probably any show has ever done, before explaining how the scenes were put together.
It’s so much fun. It’s the best job I have ever had. It’s always the frosting on the cake…If we are spending three weeks to break an episode, we spend two-and-a-half banging down on character, plot and emotion. Then, only when all the painful work is done, we take a break.
In spite of all the chaos, Season 2 ended on a rather benign note with Butcher, Frenchie, Kimiko, and Mother’s Milk receiving some respite and Hughie being hired by Congresswoman Victoria Neuman, though he is yet not aware of her intentions.
It has been made clear that Season 3 will be chock-full of havoc and social commentary, as well as a type of compound-V that would transform the Boys into superheroes for 24 hours, as apparent from the trailers.
Krupke has also previously commented on the lengths to which The Boys Season 3 goes, especially in its adaptation of Herogasm—one of the most notorious storylines from its source material, saying it’s “hilarious” but they’ve got “several genuinely emotional, heartbreaking scenes” capable of breaking hearts in midst of the fun.
Though the details of Season 3 are uncertain, the pilot saw Hughie soaked in blood after A-Train shredded his girlfriend. This suggests that Season 3 will be shocking, inappropriate, upsetting, yet wildly entertaining.
The fans can be a part of the wild affair themselves once The Boys Season 3 premiers on Prime Video on June 3.
About The Boys
The Boys is an American satirical superhero streaming television series developed by Eric Kripke for Prime Video. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which was originally published by DC Comics under their Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment, it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they combat superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities.
The show is a satirical take on the superhero genre and showcases a world where superheroes are corporatized and controlled by companies. What happens when these superheroes step out of line and rub some boys the wrong way, is the story.
