We may sign a thousand petitions to keep Ted Lasso from ending, but the creative minds behind the show had only planned it as a three-season arc. If we do get a Season 4, showrunner Bill Lawrence says that it may involve entirely new characters and stories.
When the team was conceptualizing Ted Lasso, they had set every move in stone — Ted’s personal and professional dilemmas, the team dynamics, Nate’s downfall, Keeley and Roy’s relationship, among other things.
While every creator hopes their show will be a hit, Ted Lasso’s massive success has brought up the question of whether it will continue past its Season 3’s predestined ending. And if yes, then how?
Lawrence says that just like us, he too, would be happy for the show to keep going. But it ultimately depends on Jason Sudeikis, who just like Ted has to balance his professional and personal life, given his dedication to being a doting father.
If Sudeikis (who is also the head writer) decides to leave or not appear on-screen… the show cannot be called Ted Lasso, can it? As such, a spin-off would make more sense than a fourth season.
But if Sudeikis does choose to stay, Ted Lasso may have to continue with a brand-new story.
When we started, we plotted out everybody’s beginning, middle and end of a three-season arc. This story is going to be over next year, regardless, even if the show finds another story to tell and goes on.

One way or the other, it seems that Richmond will have a definitive run — but there is nothing more charming than a show that knows when to end.
Not everything that is successful needs to be stretched out, and if Ted Lasso’s writers have shown us anything, it is that they know how to do justice to a story.
But as Lawrence time and again puts it, Ted Lasso’s fate is Sudeikis’ verdict. He will have a lot of mulling over to do!
The cast and crew are not as worried about this “final decision.” Any cast interview will show you how much the actors trust Sudeikis. This is further affirmed by Lawrence having no qualms about which way Sudeikis’ decision goes. It will do well for us fans to have confidence in him as well
About Ted Lasso
Ted Lasso is an American sports-comedy streaming TV series developed by Bill Lawrence, Jason Sudeikis, Joe Kelly, and Brendan Hunt. It’s based on a character of the same name that Sudeikis first portrayed in a series of promos for NBC Sports’ coverage of the Premier League.
It follows the life of Ted Lasso, a coach of college-level American football who is unexpectedly recruited to coach an English Premier League team, AFC Richmond, despite having no experience at all in association football.
It stars Sudeikis as the titular character, Ted Lasso, joined by Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, Phil Dunster, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed, Juno Temple, and Sarah Niles among many others.
