“King of the Hills”, one of the early main quests in STALKER 2 offers the players a choice that may seem critical from the protagonists’ point of view. The players are tasked to acquire crucial information from a Kingpin named Varan, but before giving out this information, Varan asks you to take down one of his two rival gang leaders: Shah or Roosevelt.
Now, taking down one of these gang leaders means a clash with their entire gang, but in this quest, there are more choices than you can imagine!
1. Should you kill Shah or Roosevelt in STALKER 2?
Killing either Shah or Roosevelt does not impact the storyline of STALKER 2. There is no morally or financially better choice here, so players are free to choose whoever they want to take down for Varan.
However, the choices here are not limited to killing one of the two as the game wants you to believe. Instead, you can either kill both or even kill Varan, if you want to entirely skip the decision-making process.
Thus, the four choices in the “King of the Hill” quest are as follows:
- Kill Shah
- Kill Roosevelt
- Kill both Shah and Roosevelt
- Kill Varan
2. Killing Shah in STALKER 2
There are two ways to tackle this objective: fighting Shah and his gang head-on or taking the stealthier approach.
Shah is the head of the Brood, a gang found west of the Slag Heap. The base is well-defended by tons of gang members, so fighting your way to the target can be a difficult task, but hey who does not like a challenge?
If you want to try the stealthy approach, find ‘Huron’, an NPC near the player’s Stash in the Slag Heap, who will offer you the side quest “No Honor Among Thieves.” If you complete this quest, Huron will reveal a secret safer pathway to the Brood’s lair, making your job much easier.
After killing Shah, make sure to pick up his PDA from his body and bring it back to Varan to continue the storyline.
3. Killing Roosevelt in STALKER 2
This pathway is almost identical to the previous one. Roosevelt is the head of the Commissary, which is located just north of Slag Heap.
You can head directly for the base or complete a couple of errands given by Borodulin, a drunken NPC to get a secret path into the Commissary base. After killing Roosevelt, you have to take his PDA back to Varan.
Therefore, both of these approaches are almost similar and do not significantly affect the storyline of STALKER 2.
4. Killing Both Shah and Roosevelt in STALKER 2
There are two major benefits to taking this path for certain players. First, you get to explore the game’s content in its entirety, and second, you get to maximize loot by taking out both of the two crime lords and exploring their bases.
However, if you are not interested in grinding the game and want to quickly progress further into the storyline, the last approach is the most suitable for you!
5. Killing Varan in STALKER 2
This is probably the best option in this scenario as no matter what choice you make in this quest, Varan will always betray you. Therefore, you can immediately attack Varan and kill him to cut the quest short and avoid making any decisions at all.
This will help you progress into the story faster. However, you will lose all the content and loot that you can get by raiding the bases of two rival gang leaders.
Although the fight with Varana and his gang members is considerably harder than Shah and Roosevelt, it will save a lot of your important time.
