Towards the end of the first main questline, STALKER 2 offers the players a choice that may seem critical from the protagonists’ point of view. The players are tasked to acquire Ward Sensors from an NPC known as Squint, a rogue Stalker, whom you meet early on in the quest “A Needle In A Haystack”.
Now, the players can decide whether to get these sensors by force or talk it out with Squint. This choice may seem important to the game’s plot, but is it so?
1. Should I kill Squint in STALKER 2?
Killing Squint does not affect the storyline of STALKER 2. His life is completely at the mercy of the player’s morality. In my opinion, players should let Squint live and take the moral high ground for this particular choice.
Squint doesn’t have any valuable loot on him. Additionally, he does not pose a major threat to your questline and missions later on in the game, so neutralizing him has no benefit at all.
Players get two chances to kill him throughout the quest. It’s like the developers are testing players’ ability to prevent themselves from pulling the trigger. Just show them how resilient you are!
2. First Encounter with Squint
Players meet Squint at the top of a Windmill early in the “A Needle In A Haystack” quest. As soon as he sees you, he becomes hostile. Here you can choose to attack him and take the Ward Sensors from him to finish off the quest quickly.
However, if you seek more content from the mission, pacify him. You can choose the options “Put your gun down” or “Easy, I’m a friend” to talk it out with him.
If you choose any of these options, he’ll task you to retrieve an artifact, called “Mold”, from a nearby acid-filled cave.
3. Second Encounter with Squint
When you go to recover the Mold from the acid cave, you will find yourself fighting against a strong Bloodsucker Mutant for the artifact.
It probably skipped Squint’s mind to warn you about this dangerous creature lurking in the caves before sending you off to your potential death. Maybe, he needs to be punished for it. Just for this reason, the game gives you another chance to take Squint out!
Once you retrieve the mold and bring it back to Squint, you are given two choices.
- “Take it and get lost” [Give Mold to Squint].
- “I’ll keep the artifact” [Attack Squint].
Now, I know that Squint has been a terrible host but he doesn’t deserve death for that. Just give the guy his artifact and send him off. He will give you the Sensors in return. What a great guy! Additionally, keeping the artifact to yourself won’t lead to any major rewards or benefits, so it is not worth it.
