Should You Confront Otama or Wakasa in Assassin’s Creed Shadows? – Quest Outcome Guide

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you must choose during “The Tea Ceremony” quest, whether you will confront Otama or Wakasa.

This decision slightly impacts the quest’s direction despite having almost the same outcome but will stain your hands red nonetheless.

Let’s look at the consequences of each choice, so you can make the right decision for your story.

1. Should You Confront Otama or Wakasa in AC Shadows?

During “The Tea Ceremony” quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players must make a choice: confront Otama or Wakasa. While the final outcome remains the same, choosing Wakasa is considered canon, as it leads to a less complicated and less bloody conclusion.

  • Confronting the corrupt official Otama leads to a more complicated and bloodier scenario. You’ll need to chase and kill her in the streets, and then pursue Wakasa in Osaka Castle as part of the “Defensive Position” quest.
  • Confronting Wakasa reveals her as the Golden Teppo, your assassination target. She will take you to her house, where you can easily assassinate her, completing the “Drive the Point Home” quest.

Thus, regardless of your choice, The Golden Teppo must be eliminated. Whichever path you choose to take will ultimately lead you to the same goal.

Your reward for completing the Tea Ceremony quest is the Shinobi’s Fury legendary tanto, and then you can pursue either Wada Koretake or Oda Nobunaga to continue the story.

2. Confronting Otama – Outcome

Choosing to confront Otama instead of Wakasa during “The Tea Ceremony” quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows leads to a series of events that ultimately reveal Otama’s innocence and Wakasa’s true identity as the Golden Teppo.

After confronting Otama, Naoe will chase and assassinate her in the streets. A letter found on Otama’s corpse reveals that Wakasa is the true Golden Teppo, which leads to Naoe tracking Wakasa down in Osaka Castle.

Naoe feels no guilt over killing Otama, given her corrupt and unpleasant character. However, she regrets that her real target has escaped, leading to a more challenging assassination mission at Osaka Castle.

Choosing to confront Otama thus leads to a prolonged outcome and more bloodshed compared to confronting Wakasa directly. There are no significant long-term story consequences or differences in rewards for choosing Otama over Wakasa.

3. Confronting Wakasa – Outcome

Confronting Wakasa is considered the canon choice in AC Shadows, resulting in a direct outcome for the quest. By choosing Wakasa, players can skip the stealth and guards and the death of Otama, leading to a more straightforward and intense confrontation.

In confronting Wakasa, she confesses to being the Golden Teppo and attempts to make a deal with Naoe. Players then get the faux choice to spare or kill her immediately, but regardless of your choice, Wakasa’s fate is sealed, and Naoe will ultimately kill her.

Confronting Wakasa saves time and energy, while also avoiding unnecessary bloodshed (unlike confronting Otama), making the quest easier to complete. The scene that unfolds when confronting Wakasa is also more meaningful and looks cooler than the alternative.

Since this choice aligns with the game’s intended story and doesn’t change much of the outcome or reward anyway, players may want to choose this compared to the other.

Ultimately, the decision is yours.
