Battlefield devs EA and Dice have unveiled a short film titled Exodus – a nine-minute precursor to the highly anticipated Battlefield 2042. While the game will not feature a narrative-driven single-player experience, Exodus does a pretty good job setting up a story and introducing players to what’s at stake.

The film outlines a world 21 years from the present day, where environmental disasters have led to the collapse of countries and the formation of anarchic elements. Those who belong to the fallen countries have no patriation and are thus called No-Pats.
At the center of all this Battlefield 4’s Kimble “Irish” Graves makes a surprise return to the franchise.
Played by Michael K Williams (The Wire), Irish, according to the film’s YouTube description, is
no more a marine but the commander of the No-Pat vessel Exodus, forced to choose between the lives of the 200 refugees on his boat and the future of all the Non-Patriated.

Exodus also introduces a new character named Oz, who clashes with Irish over the future of the No-Pats. From initial impressions, it’s evident that Irish and Oz have some sort of history which we will probably find out more about when the game arrives.
Furthermore, Exodus confirms a canonical ending for Battlefield 4: that Irish, and not Huang “Hannah” Shuyi, survived the events of that game’s campaign. As such, Irish will be a playable Specialist in Battlefield 2042.
Irish is the fifth specialist to be announced for Battlefield 2042, with five more to be announced in the coming weeks.
As per EA, each of the ten specialists featured in the game will come equipped with a specific gadget and trait that can be used by that character exclusively. Naturally, this will have an impact on their overall playstyles.
Players will also get to customize the rest of each Specialist’s loadout with a weapon, grenade, or secondary gadget of their choice.
Battlefield 2042 has been in the news quite frequently of late. The game kicked off its first playtest yesterday, and testers have spotted the use of Easy Anticheat.
It’s good to know that devs are taking the necessary steps to ensure a fair playing experience for all.
EA and DICE have been revealing more and more about the game as we get closer to the release day. Undoubtedly, the most exciting of these revelations has been Battlefield Portal.
Battlefield 2042 arrives on October 22 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
