Episode 4 Recap
At the beginning of episode 4 of Shoot! Goal to the Future, coach Kamiya talked with the principal about their strategy not working out as planned and the lack of players. They left the team after the match because they could not accept Tsuji as the center forward.
As a result, there were only 10 team members left, including the manager; the principal declared that they could not play the game with so few players. Afterward, the coach asked the principal for a list of opponents. He was shocked to see that only two teams agreed to play out of 10-12.
It was only because Kamiya was the coach of this team that they agreed to play. Kakegawa hasn’t won a single match or even made it through qualifying.
In addition, the principal asked him how he would break the old record and qualify for the playoffs. As soon as the principal started panicking, the coach informed him that the deadline was near; if they lost both matches, the team would be shut down.
After the evening practice, the coach announced that the boys had to practice even harder the next day because there wasn’t much time left as the deadline was quickly approaching.
In addition, Kakegawa North and Fujita East agreed to play them in their first match after two days. They were shocked that no other team wanted to play against them because they believed they were useless.
A player explained to the coach that they only had nine players and that it was possible to play without all of them. The coach told them he would assign more regimes besides their regular practices. To make things easier for them, he texted them the details.
During the changing room discussion later, the players realized that the teams they were playing against were both top tier and would be extremely difficult to beat.
According to one player, the coach did that deliberately to shut down the team. According to Kazama, it is unlikely that the coach would do such a thing.
A second player told everyone they were supposed to win one of the two matches, not both. Kazama responded that coach Kamiya is there to teach and look after them; his training will improve their playing.
When someone said this, Kazama responded that they hadn’t won a single match in years. It was starting to feel like the game might be won, and everyone felt motivated.
Kurokawa said that Coach Kamiya’s training regimens were perfect for enhancing individual skills. Kazama surprised everyone by telling them that the coach had been observing each player closely so he could prepare exercises for practice, meaning he was trying to create a nine-player team that could win.
Suddenly, the coach appeared and announced they would have to carry individual balls 24/7. The coach’s instructions were understood and followed exactly.
When Tsuji started playing inside the house, his mom was not very impressed since he was about to break the lamp. In his mind, Tsuji told himself that winning with nine players was impossible.
The next day, Sonoda approached Sahara and requested that he rejoin the team, but Sahara declined and left. Each player’s personal regimen was tested on the field.
In preparation for the upcoming match against Kakegawa North, each player had a different training regimen and was supposed to train alone. Instructing them on their movements, the coach made an appearance.
As they progressed, Tsuji still lagged behind; Kazama was unimpressed by such performance. In case Sahara and the other player returned soon, the coach sent them their regimen. Each of the team players who quit playing refused to return to the team when Amagai (the goalkeeper) tried to approach them.
The next morning, before the match, they learned Kakegawa North’s ace, Fujino, was injured and would not be playing. This gave Kakegawa High an advantage. Amagai tried to refuse, but the coach didn’t listen to him.
The coach then announced Amagai as the team’s captain. The coach wished the players well and asked them to perform at their best.
Kakegawa High players tried their best to score and win the match, but Kakegawa North was leading by seven goals, and unfortunately, they lost. Kazama blamed Tsuji for not kicking the ball even though he had a chance to do so.
The two began arguing and proving their points. Other players began to lose hope. Kazama visited Sahara this time and begged him to join the team because they couldn’t win with nine players, and he didn’t want the soccer team to fold.
Sahara refused right away because he wasn’t chosen as a starter. Tsuji entered the classroom and told Sahara that if he wasn’t joining the team because of him, then he would quit. Instead of arguing, they left.
Kazama and Tsuji were talking on the roof when Tsuji told him that with special skills, he could join any team, so why this one? Kazama lost his temper and was about to hit Tsuji when Kurokawa intervened.
Kazama finally told Tsuji why this soccer team was so important to him that his father was the team’s captain when they lost for the first time, and after that, Kakegawa High began to fall apart.
The downfall was blamed and hated on his father. Even though he still loved soccer, he stopped playing and watching it. This is why Kazama was so concerned about rebuilding the soccer team.
According to the principal, Fujita turned them down and offered a better practice match. The team learned that the next match had been canceled, and everyone was very disappointed and shocked.
At the night, the coach asked Sahara and Sonada to join the team, but that stubborn guy refused him right on his face. Coach dribbled the ball against them and displayed incredibly sophisticated gameplay.
As soon as they arrived on the field the following day, the coach informed them that the Kakegawa Weed soccer team was ready to play.
