Episode 12 Recap
We see flashbacks of Kokubo, whose family was forced to migrate to England for personal reasons. He struggled to adjust to his new teammates’ unusual style of play.
He attempts to fit in and follow his teammates’ commands, but his teammates keep ignoring him and never pass him the football, making Kokubo feel even more lonely.
Every time he considered giving up, the promise he made to Hideto before leaving went something like this: “Let’s play soccer together again,” provided him with the emotional support he needed.
Hideto, on the other hand, realizes that he is in deep despair upon meeting him again after he has returned to Japan. The Shizuoka Tournament hosted the final match of the National High School Soccer Championship.
The two opponents on the match card are Kakegawa and Nomada.
The scary might of Kokubo strikes worry into the hearts of the Kakegawa High School soccer team members as they prepare for the game.
Later in the game, Kokubo underestimates Kakegawa’s formation and intercepts them effectively, but his overconfidence throws him off guard, allowing Hideto to score.
Kokubo, in disbelief that Kakegawa was able to score while he was defending, left him speechless as Nomada was considered titans in the tournament.
After Hideto scores, a counter-attack of Nomada begins. Kokubo is charging ahead while Hideto tries to chase and slide tackles him. Still, Kokubo invades and scores a goal and ties the game.
Hideto is the only one who finds his behavior unsettling as he sees the playstyle of Kokubo isn’t like he used to play, and the expression on his face has changed, which he had never seen.

Shoot! Goal to the Future is a sequel anime series of the 1990 Shoot! series by Tsukasa Ōshima. Noriyuki Nakamura is directing the series at EMT Squared with Mitsutaka Hirota writing the scripts, and Yukiko Akiyama designing the characters.
