My Hero Academia is undeniably one of the most sensational series this year. Its manga has us on our edge, its TV anime has us begging for more, and its latest anime movie is wrecking box office records left and right. Well, certainly can’t get better than this, right?
Surprisingly, it turns out it can definitely do so. Legendary Entertainment’s (Godzilla vs Kong) live-action adaptation of My Hero Academia has finally found its director.
Director Shinsuke Satō, well known for manga and anime adaptations like Kingdom and the Netflix thriller Alice in Borderland, will direct the live-action adaptation of Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia.
The project will mark Mr. Satō’s first English-Language debut.
Manga editor Ryosuke Yoritomi from the publishing house Shueisha will oversee Legendary’s take on the series. He was also part of the anime series’ planning team as well.
The anime series by Bones Inc. & Toho Animation is currently in its fifth season. There have also been three animated films to date, the latest one, My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission, launched last week.
Meanwhile, Toho is also in charge of distributing the live-action adaptation in Japan.
The Tokyo-based filmmaker Shinsuke Satō recently came into the limelight after the 2019 critically acclaimed film Kingdom. His works are undoubtedly leagues ahead of other anime adaptations of famous series such as the dreaded Death Note and Fullmetal Alchemist.
It will be interesting to see his take on the superhero series.
Legendary Entertainment announced the project way back in 2018, just ahead of Detective Pikachu’s live-action adaptation. Though it has been a long wait, the launch date is still not announced.
While we wait, it will be the perfect time for newcomers to catch up to the series.
