A new original sci-fi anime series titled Lazarus was announced earlier this week. Shinichiro Watanabe of Cowboy Bebop fame and Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick, were collaborating to create this masterpiece.
This combination seems too good to be true, and fans were enthralled. They were all eagerly waiting for the studio to release a trailer or a visual. Adult Swim has granted their wishes, and a teaser was released. Here’s that information.
Adult Swim Festival’s “Toonami on the Green” event at Comic-Con International debuted the trailer for Lazarus. Watanabe personally appeared at the event and previewed the project’s character designs and imageboard art.
The trailer is very much reminiscent of Watanabe style. It previews our protagonist parkouring and trying to escape from security. The trailer shows brief action sequences, and they are clean, with not a single wasted movement.
The staff said they were tentatively aiming to complete the project by 2024. They did not promise to deliver the project by 2024 precisely. It would make sense to take more time for an original anime like this. The anime is going to be worth the wait.
The anime will feature a score by jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington and musicians Floating Points and Bonobo. These are well-known names in the music industry, and as we know, Shinichiro Watanabe never misses the background scores.
Lazarus is a series set in 2052, where neuroscientist Dr. Skinner has developed a miracle cure-all drug called Hapuna. However, this drug doesn’t cure all diseases but is, in fact, a slow poison.
With time-ticking and death approaching, a special task force of five agents is gathered worldwide to save humanity. The staff involved in this anime and the first look tell us this will be a masterpiece. Fan of action anime or not, don’t skip it!
