After almost three years of leaving Netflix, BBC’s flagship show Sherlock has finally found a new streaming home.
The show kicked off in 2010 and offered a fresh, modern twist on the classic detective stories. Benedict Cumberbatch brought Sherlock Holmes to life, while Martin Freeman played his trusty sidekick, Dr. Watson.
Sherlock not only created a cult but also won nine Primetime Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award. After four seasons and 13 episodes, the show ended in January 2017.
After enjoying a prolonged success on Netflix, the show finally left the streaming giant in 2021. Now, Sherlock will be back again on Hulu later this month.
According to Collider, all 13 show episodes will launch on the platform on March 26.
When Sherlock first aired on BBC in the UK and PBS in the US, everyone loved it. The show received many compliments for its watertight writing, acting, and perfectly cast characters.
However, after Jim Moriarty’s death, many fans felt the show wasn’t as good anymore. This caused a fall in viewership numbers in the show’s last two seasons. Despite the downfall, people are hopeful for a potential continuation of the show.
Adapting classic stories for today’s generation can be a tricky business. For instance, Sherlock was a huge hit in its prime but almost wore out its welcome in the latter half of the series.
Now, it’s coming back on Hulu, which might spark fresh buzz about whether there’ll be a fifth season. Everyone involved seems keen on the idea, but it’ll really come down to timing and whether the actors can all sync their calendars.
Sometimes, we forget to realize the essence of these shows in carving out a quintessential detective image in the film industry.
Sherlock is often seen as one of the standout shows of the 2010s, and finding a fresh audience on Hulu might be the spark it needs to reignite excitement and possibly lead to more seasons.
Whether we’ll get new episodes of “Sherlock” really depends on whether Cumberbatch and Freeman have the time. Regardless, given how eager people are these days for reboots, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Sherlock reinventing its glory days.
