The She-Hulk finale hints that Jennifer Walters will not be appearing in any of the MCU’s upcoming movies, as of now.
The latest Disney+ series from the MCU follows the story of Jennifer Walters, cousin of Bruce Banner aka The Hulk. After an accident, Jen ends up with some of her cousin’s blood in her system that awakens her inner Hulkness.
The first season consisted of nine episodes. The season 1 finale premiered today, answering a lot of our questions. The finale episode began with Jennifer attending a secret party thrown by the mysterious HulkKing. It is revealed that HulkKing is actually Todd, who injects Jen’s blood into his system to gain Hulk powers.
The scene features many characters, including The Abomination, The Hulk and Titania. At this point, the finale takes an interesting turn, turning into an ultimate example of metafiction. For the unaware, metafiction refers to a literary or cinematic device where the lines between fiction and reality are blurred.
The She-Hulk finale turns into metafiction when the protagonist of the series, Jen realizes that she is extremely dissatisfied with the ending of her show. To set things right, she decides to pay a visit to Marvel Studios and speak to the team of writers who were behind the finale.
So, Jen pays a visit to Marvel Studios where she finds out that an unknown figure named Kevin is behind the ending of her series. At this point, we all thought this was a reference to Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios. But, we are instead introduced to Knowledge Enhanced Visual Interconnectivity Nexus, better known as K.E.V.I.N.
Like Jen, we all expected K.E.V.I.N to be a human being, but he is revealed to be a giant AI brain. After a long conversation resulting in fixing the obvious issues with the She-Hulk finale, K.E.V.I.N sort of hints that we will not be seeing She-Hulk in any upcoming projects of the MCU. At least, not anytime soon.
In one scene, K.E.V.I.N jokingly mentions that he will meet Jen again on the big screen. Jen seems excited by the prospect and asks, “Really?”. K.E.V.I.N was quick to answer her question, when he clearly said no. However, that does not mean we should give up on our hopes.
This could definitely change pretty soon. Maybe we will have another scene of Jen interacting with K.E.V.I.N in the next season which would hint otherwise. There’s also a chance that K.E.V.I.N will change his mind. Nevertheless, it was a witty nod to the Marvel Studios President, and even made fun of him.
Neither the MCU nor Disney+ has confirmed anything about She-Hulk season 2 yet. However, Jen hinted that season 2 was happening quite a few times in the finale. Hopefully, we will soon get an official announcement.
All episodes of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law are streaming on Disney+.
