She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has had an uneven run in the rating race, but the penultimate episode wrecked Jen’s life just as she was getting used to the idea of being Jennifer Walters and She-Hulk.
In episode 8, Hulk-King publicly exposed Jen’s private messages and an inappropriate video of her night with Josh through Intelligencia. The breach of her privacy and the humiliation caused by it causes her to go on a rampage, and episode 9 opens with Jen finding herself in Damage Control’s prison.
The episode opens with Jen facing the consequences and her uneasiness about not being She-hulk anymore, even though that’s what she wanted since she first turned into the green 6-foot-7-inch Hulk.
She seeks Emil out but stumbles into an Intelligencia meet-up where Pug and Nikki are already running a sting operation to uncover the Hulk-King’s identity. As many fans had already guessed, Todd Phelps reveals himself as Hulk-King and confesses to being the creator of Intelligencia.
In a haphazard scene where Todd turns into Hulk, Emil transforms into Abomination, Bruce and Titania burst through walls and roofs, and Jen turns to the viewers and asks them, “Is this doing it for you?”
Fan’s confusion about the messy and cliched ending mirrored Jen’s, but this was She-Hulk’s show, and she decides that she should have a say it. Jen enters the show’s writers’ room and demands a rewrite. When rebuked, she finds herself face to face with Marvel Studios’ head, Kevin! Yes, not Kevin Feige, but K.E.V.I.N, the writers teasing fans through Jen by putting in the line, “Were you expecting a man?”
Jen puts her lawyer face on, makes the argument to write her own ending, and smashes through the MCU’s usual superhero endings, proving, once again, She-hulk can’t be bound by stereotypes. After fixing her climax, Jen fights Todd in court and gets reinstated as a lawyer.
But let’s talk about all the things that need more explanation at the end.
Hulk explains he had gone to Sakaar after he returned, but he’s not alone! Bruce returns home with his son Skaar, opening new possibilities for Hulk in an upcoming movie that Jen teased in her discussion with Kevin!
Jen might not show up in any of the films, but Hulk will return to the big screen, and we may not have seen the end of The Abomination either!
The end-credits scene shows Emil escaping to Kamar-Taj with Wong from prison, signaling his eventual return to the MCU. And with The Leader, his creator, returning in Captain America: New World Order, The Abomination might be back in the latest Captain America instalment.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s ending has opened up new possibilities not only for Jennifer Walters’ She-Hulk but also Hulk, Skaar, and The Abomination. But one question remains – will Jen be back with season 2 on Disney+ in the future?
