The new trailer for Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings is here, and fans are in for a treat. From surprising cameos and glimpses of new beasts to the powers of the Mandarin’s Rings, there’s a lot to unpack.
The new trailer seemed much stronger than the previous one and had an overall bigger impact. The big reveal came when the end shot focused on the surprising return of The Abomination and Wong as they’re seen fighting in a cage.
The Abomination was first introduced in the MCU in The Incredible Hulk (2008). Tim Roth will reprise his role as The Abomination in the upcoming Disney+ series, She-Hulk. Whereas Wong, first seen in Doctor Strange (2016), will return in the sequel film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The trailer also explored Shang-Chi’s relationship with his parents and dived deeper into his conflict with his father being The Mandarin and the leader of a terrorist organization. In the comics, The Mandarin is a supervillain and the archenemy of Iron Man, first appearing in Tales of Suspense #50.
The title of the film is a direct reference to Mandarin’s 10 Rings. However, a slight difference is that Mandarin’s rings portrayed in the film appear to be different than the comics. The trailers show that they’re more like rings worn around the wrists like bracelets rather than rings around someone’s fingers.
According to the comics, The ten cylinders were Makluan pieces of technology, and each contained the soul of a long-dead legendary cosmic warrior. Mandarin found them when Makluan explorer Axonn-Karr had to retreat to a cave in the Valley of Spirits in China. The Mandarin took the devices for himself. As they’re similar in shape to rings, he began wearing them as such, one on each of his fingers, learning how to use them and unlock their powers.
Each Ring has a different power. Check out Marvel’s official website for a quick lesson on understanding the powers of Mandarin’s Ten Rings better.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton is excited to give fans Shang-Chi’s origin story,
“Shang-Chi’s main problem in his life is rooted in not knowing who he really is. He has to learn how to own every part of himself. If he doesn’t allow himself to look at all of it—the good, the bad, the light and the dark—and to own it all, he won’t be able to reach his full potential.”

The film will follow Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when the Ten Rings organization meddle in his life. A story about a young Super Hero whose journey of self-discovery unfolds as he unlocks his true potential.
