After years of speculation and rumors surrounding the revival of Sex and the City, a popular rom-com series, it is finally confirmed to return on HBO Max.
The reboot of Sex and the City will be a 10-episode limited series and will be called “And Just Like That…”. It is all set to begin production in the latter part of the spring season in New York.
The reboot will see Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis returning as their characters Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York respectively as seen in the original series (1998-2004). But, Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones, will not return to the series.
“And Just Like That…”, used as the reboot title is a reference to a line that has been spoken on the original show quite a few times. It will follow the leading ladies into their 50s as they navigate through their lives.
Parker, Davis, and Nixon shared a small teaser on Instagram. We see the video cut between New York and a blank computer screen, on which the phrases “And just like that…” and “The story continues…” appear.
The original series was created by Darren Star and is based on a book written by Candice Bushnell. It ran for six seasons and 94 episodes between 1998-2004 on HBO. It later became a franchise with two feature films “Sex and the City” (2008) and “Sex and the City 2” (2010).
A two-seasoned prequel series premiered on The CW in 2013, titled, “The Carrie Diaries,” starring AnnaSophia Robb as a young Carrie Bradshaw.
Michael Patrick King will also make a comeback as the executive producer of the series. He has directed several episodes for the original series, and he has also written and directed the two feature films.
“I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor and the beloved city that has always defined them,”
Sarah Aubrey, Head of HBO Max’s original content
The original show is known for its path-breaking work of portraying female sexuality, so fans are curious to see how the reboot series will handle the contemporary era. We can expect to be as delighted with the reboot of the series as we were with the original.
