Episode 3, titled “Royal Academy,” starts off with Celia welcoming Rio to the academy after he is enrolled in it as a reward for saving the princess.
Celia takes it upon herself to tutor Rio as he is unfamiliar with the language and cannot read or write.
Rio goes for his first day at the academy and is introduced to everyone by Celia. However, since he is a lowly commoner, he is looked down on and is mocked by everyone.
Rio continues to take private lessons from Celia and improves his knowledge. Rio is able to grasp everything quickly once he learns the basic symbols and words of the dialect.
Since he has the memories of Haruto, he is able to think and act like him.
Haruto used to practice dueling in his pastime, and those skills come to use when Rio faces his instructor for a duel and impresses him.
The instructor tells him that he has the potential to be a knight, to which Rio calmly says that he has no interest in it.
Not just physical prowess, even academically, Rio excels as he ties for first place with Princess Christina, who is considered the smartest during the exams.
Cut to five years later, Rio has grown up and has been chosen to fight against official knights to show off his skills.
To his surprise, he faces off against Charles Arbor, the former vice-captain. Charles holds ill feelings towards Rio as he was demoted due to the incident where he tortured Rio after falsely accusing him.
Charles sees to it that he does not take it easy with Rio and proceeds to attack him. However, Rio is able to counter his attacks and, with a decisive strike, disarms him and wins the duel.
The episode ends with Celia feeling insecure that Rio will draw attention to himself and will no longer spend time with her and lose her exclusivity.
