Second Season Of DC’s Stargirl Has Found Its Villains

Stargirl is bringing two new DC villains to the CW’s Arrowverse in its second season. Nick. E. Tarabay and Jonathan Cake are joining the cast of the second season of the newest superhero show, as Eclipso and The Shade. Stargirl, which premiered last year on the DC Universe, has permanently moved to the CW and will air its second season on the network. From the choice of villains, it looks like season two is ready to follow in the footsteps of the positively reviewed season one.

The Arrowverse is no stranger to obscure DC villains. It has brought to life a range of seemingly unknown antiheroes and villains who have been living in the shadows of the more famous but now stale characters of the comics. Some of these portrayals (read Deathstroke and Deadshot) have been so immaculate that it is hard to watch a different rendition of the same character.

Last season, the villain on Stargirl was the Injustice Society of America, specifically their leader Icicle. In the second season, the show will feature Eclipso, a supervillain in the DC universe with lots of backstories. His appearance was teased in the first season when Cindy finds a blue diamond with his essence trapped inside it. He exploits the darker side of humanity and feeds off their sinful impulses.

Nick. E. Tarabay has already portrayed a villain in Arrowverse – he played the small screen version of Captain Boomerang in the first three seasons on Arrow. It will be interesting to see how he makes Eclipso different from his previous character.

Jonathan Cake, who will play The Shade, has also played a villain in Legends Of Tomorrow. His character on Stargirl is one of DC’s classic antiheroes, a Victorian-era immortal who can manipulate shadows.

The Shade is essentially a Flash villain which leaves the door open for a potential crossover with the other CW superhero shows. The last Arrowverse crossover made some massive changes to the future of all the shows in the multiverse. Season two of Stargirl might answer whether the show will be part of the next crossover.

The CW has not announced a premiere date for the second season of Stargirl yet.
