Pam & Tommy director Craig Gillespie has glowing remarks for lead actor Sebastian Stan in the upcoming Hulu miniseries. The highly anticipated show will star Lily James, Seth Rogen, Nick Offerman, and Taylor Schilling and is based on the real-life relationship of Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee and bombshell actress Pamela Anderson.
The series caught attention when the first character photos of James and Stan as the titular celebrities were revealed earlier this month. Check them out here:
Now in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gillespie expressed his delight at Stan’s work as Tommy Lee so far.
The director explained that the real Tommy Lee has a certain energy that Stan has never had to tap into before. Gillespie pointed out the actor’s dedication to portraying Lee down to the full physical transformation.
As for the chemistry between Pamela and Tommy, Gillespie had nothing but praise for the lead actors’ work together. Read his statement below:
How’s that for range?! He’s so talented and is absolutely killing it. Tommy Lee has this energy and this spontaneity to him that I just haven’t seen in Sebastian’s work, necessarily, before. It’s a completely different version of anything I’m familiar with in regard to him.
But innately, I felt like he could get there, and he’s done so much work, even physically transforming himself to get to that place. It’s been so much fun to do, I’ve got to say. The two of them in scenes together, I’m finding them quite electric.

The celebrities’ alliance, which started in 1995, with both getting married after only four days of knowing each other, ended in 1998 with Lee being accused of domestic abuse and assault, for which he received a six-month jail sentence.
The couple, however, became widely known for their infamous honeymoon sex tape, which was leaked by Rand Gauthier (Rogen) after their nuptials. Pam & Tommy will focus on the aftermath of the tape leak and how it impacted the relationship between the two.
Although this is the first time Stan gets to experiment with a new character it certainly won’t be his last opportunity to test out his acting range.
The Marvel actor has an upcoming role in Simon Kinberg’s female-led espionage film The 355, whose ensemble cast boasts names like Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Penelope Cruz, Diane Kruger, and Bing Bing Fan. It is expected to premiere on January 7, 2022.
Furthermore, he will also star in other projects, including Adam McKay produced thriller Fresh, which stars Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist, a period drama chronicling the life of an architect. Stan will appear alongside Vanessa Kirby, Marion Cotillard, Joel Edgerton, and Mark Rylance.
Following his breakout role playing Bucky Barnes in the Marvel franchise, the actor finally seems to be spreading his wings and taking on different projects which could push him towards excellence. But until then, here’s looking forward to Pam & Tommy.
