Season 2 of Only Murders in the Building (OMITB) is constantly adding more layers to different characters. Although we knew everything about the three podcasters, Season 2 is showing us more in the best possible ways. One such layer is Mabel’s sexuality.
After watching her kiss Cara Delevingne’s character with Billie Eilish’s song playing in the background, you might wonder about her sexuality.
It seems like Mabel is bisexual, although it isn’t explicitly mentioned in the show. She was previously with Oscar, but her kiss with Alice shows that she also has an affinity towards women.
If we look at the way the scene portrayed this, it was pretty uneventful. In Episode 2, the characters had much bigger things to worry about, such as the murderer, Mabel’s past trauma, and more.
So, it was a perfect depiction of Mabel kissing Alice without too much drama. The series didn’t give it more attention or significance than it required. This is contrary to how films/TV shows harp on these moments to make a “statement.”
It tends to break the actual flow of events, sounds unnecessarily preachy, and doesn’t come across with the right message. But, OMITB seems to rise above these issues and normalizes sexuality.
It is beyond doubt that Mabel is bisexual and not straight, and OMITB confirms it. If you’re wondering if she is pansexual, we don’t know it yet and perhaps won’t for a while.
If we look at Episodes 3 and 4, Alice didn’t appear again, and rightly so, because the story didn’t require her to be in them. So, if the show depicts Mabel as pansexual, it is likely that it won’t make a big deal out of that, either. In fact, just like this time, we won’t see it coming the next time, too.
For now, the focus is on Bunny’s murderer and Lucy. It turns out that Lucy was there the night Bunny was murdered and had even seen someone in a jumpsuit and a mask. She shows Charles the secret passageway in his loo, and we see how it goes through the different parts of the Arconia.
However, we still don’t have any clues as to who the murderer is. Perhaps, this is why Charles is speaking to Jan. He might want some leads, and who better to trace a murderer’s steps than someone who’s done it herself before. The fifth episode might give us some hints, and we might finally have some direction to look in.
