Dragon Age: The Veilguard has several companions and quests that are related to the decisions Rook (You) makes. Every decision you take in the game might decide the fate of some companions or maybe even alter the storyline.
At the end of the Shadows Crossing main quest, you will face a pivotal choice: save the Mayor of Dmeta’s Crossing or leave him behind. This choice-driven quest can affect not only your storyline but also your relationships with your companions. Therefore, it’s wise to consider which option you should pursue.
1. Should you Save or Leave The Mayor in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
Players should leave the Mayor to increase Rook’s approval with two companions, Bellara or Harding. This option is good for those who want to romance either of them in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Completionists should choose this path, too, as it unlocks the ‘A Growing Corruption’ side quest later in the game. However, if players prefer to romance Neve, they should Save the Mayor instead.
The decisions won’t significantly affect the storyline.
At the end of the blighted village, you will find the Mayor trapped in blight. He will ask for mercy, claiming the gods controlled him. You may not trust him, especially since he is surrounded by gold and stolen riches.
2. Outcomes of all the Choices
2.1 Save the Mayor
If you choose to save the Mayor, Bellara will be upset. She will remind you that the mayor caused the deaths of almost all the villagers in D’Meta. After you rescue him, the mayor will give you some advice.
Choosing to save the mayor will increase the approval with Neve, which might help if you want to romance her, but both Harding and Bellara will disapprove of your choice.
2.2 Leave the Mayor
If you decide to leave the Mayor, Neve will oppose you. She will say that the Mayor wasn’t completely in control of his actions and that the gods influenced him. At the same time, your approval with Harding and Bellara will increase. This could help if you want to pursue a romance with them.
Players can access the ‘A Growing Corruption’ side quest if they leave the Mayor. In this quest, you must defeat Mayor Julius, who has become a strong, blighted boss.
2.3 Banish the Mayor
If players choose the Grey Wardens faction at the beginning of the game, they can banish Mayor Julius to the Grey Wardens. Doing this significantly boosts Rook’s approval rating with Neve but decreases it with Harding and Bellara.
