On December 25, Kadokawa released a web commercial for the anime film Sasaki and Miyano, based on the Sasaki and Miyano manga by Shou Harusono. Details about the film’s theme song and a new key visual were released.
The film is set to premiere in Japan on February 17, 2023. It will screen alongside an anime short adaptation of Harusono’s Hirano and Kagiuraspinoff manga.
The anime is directed by Shinji Ishihira at Studio DEEN, with Takahiro Ueno as assistant director. Yoshiko Nakamurais slated to be the screenwriter, with Maki Fujii as character designer, and Kana Shibueas as music composer.
The opening theme song of the show “March,” is performed by Miracle Chimpanzee and the ending theme song “Ichigo Sunset” will be performed by Yūsuke Shirai and Sōma Saitō, who are also part of the show’s main cast.
The original Sasaki and Miyano manga has been serialized by Kadokawa’s Media Factory in their Comicmanga magazine in 2016. The manga is currently ongoing. Yen Press distributes the English translation of the manga. The plot of the manga, as described by Yen Press, is:
“It all started like a typical old-school boys’ love plotline—bad-boy senior meets adorably awkward underclassman, one of them falls in love, and so on and so forth.
But although Miyano is a self-proclaimed boys’ love expert, he hasn’t quite realized…he’s in one himself.
Which means it’s up to Sasaki to make sure their story has a happily ever after…!”
The first television anime adaptation of the manga premiered on January 9 and aired 12 episodes.
About Sasaki and Miyano
Sasaki and Miyano by Harusono is a BL (Boy’s Life) manga which has been published on the pixiv website since 2016.
Miyano is a girlish looking boy who is insecure about how he looks and spends his days reading BL manga.
He meets Sasaki, a delinquent senior, while trying to prevent a scuffle at school. Sasaki seems more and more interested in Miyano every day.
