Color me disappointed when The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina ended abruptly with Sabrina’s death. Now her return to Riverdale will answer many pending questions, promises creator and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
Sabrina’s appearance was announced back in October, as part of a recurring cast for Riverdale’s supernatural segment “Rivervale.”
The supernatural event started with “Welcome to Rivervale,” spanning six episodes. Kiernan Shipka’s Sabrina will appear in Season 6 Episode 7 “The Witching Hour(s).”
Besides all the eerie, occult madness that the Riverdale crew will partake in, fans are also curious whether this crossover will take before or after the events of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
While Sacasa does not clarify the timeline, he does say that the decision was a well-thought one. Sabrina won’t be part of the show simply because the narrative is dabbling in the supernatural world. It will serve her own story too.
As for the explanation for her death, this is what Sacasa has to say:
The end of Sabrina is definitely alluded to and referenced and I will say, no, Sabrina is not appearing just because we’re in Rivervale […] Without saying or spoiling anything I can say, yes, there is a chance we will see Kiernan as Sabrina later on in Riverdale. Yes, there’s a chance.

Here’s a refresher for Sabrina’s untimely demise: A bloodletting ceremony is performed on Sabrina to drain the void inside her. Sadly, while the ritual was successful, the process took a toll on Sabrina and leads to her death.
Death is not always permanent in Chilling Adventures, but the surprising thing is that Sabrina moved on Sweet Hereafter, the witch-version of heaven.
On the Riverdale side of things which is currently in an alternate reality, it is left to see how Sabrina actually fits in and whether it has anything to do with combining powers with Madelaine Petsch’s Cheryl Blossom.
Irrespective, I’d love to know more of Sabrina and get some closure on how the show ended!
For Riverdale, which lost a huge amount of its viewership during the 5th season, Sabrina is a refreshing change that is definitely expected to draw in Chilling Adventures fans. Although regular Riverdale is strange on its own, the Supernatural version could just be its saving grace.
Riverdale Season 6 Episode 7 will air on December 7.
