Episode 2 Speculations
The action and the giant mushroom explosions in this anime are excellent, and the manga that immediately comes to mind is Dorohedoro.
This post-apocalyptic world gets your blood pumping. I mean, the government mafia in bunny heads and suits? It is confusing why mushroom keepers are associated with rusting while Nekoyanagi tries to make mushroom medicines.
The governor is also fishy, riding with shooters and looking like an underground criminal. A pink-haired girl is brought in before him, but why does she look guilty? Hopefully, we see it in the next episode.

Episode 1 Recap
A lone traveler covered in bandages with sutras written on them comes to the Gunma Prefecture gate. He is a monk of the Tenka order named Watarigani Wataru. He’s going on a pilgrimage to Imihama- a rusty wasteland, something many monks do.
He spots a poster at the gate of a man called Akaboshi Bisco. He asks the officer checking his paperwork why this wanted man is called a man-eater. It’s because people hate and fear him enough to call him that.
In the city, funeral service organizations have become a booming business, meaning people are dropping dead left and right. The police ride on giant iguanas, asking around for people selling mushrooms.
The scene cuts to a well-dressed old lady recounting how she once met a mushroom keeper, who gives people the rusting disease. A doctor with one black eye, called Nekoyanagi, treats people with rusting disease free of cost.
After work, he buys illegal mushrooms and alligator-clam meat for his sister Pawoo, who is sick.
At home, Pawoo watches the news that states the mushroom terrorist has been caught. Nekoyanagi tests the mushrooms with drug synthesizers, but unfortunately, it doesn’t help.
He goes out to give medicine to the manju seller’s daughter, but a little boy steals his bag. As he follows him into the alley, the governor and his men threaten him. The news flash says a mushroom colony’s been spotted in the Saitama iron dessert.
If anyone breathes in spores from the mushrooms, they’re supposed to get the rusting disease too. Pawoo goes out to fight the terrorist even in her condition. Governor Kurokawa’s men bring in a strange girl for questioning.
The terrorist Akaboshi follows the doctor stealthily into his apartment and asks if he can make medicine for rusting.
