Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds confirms where Deadpool 3 currently lies at the writing stage, commenting on an estimated start window for the film’s production to begin.
The actor claims he’ll be wrapped up solely in Deadpool (not a pun) for the next two years till the film’s third instalment releases at the end of 2024, and here’s why that’s a good sign.
Deadpool 3’s release date shifted to November 8, 2024, switching dates with Blade, the other upcoming MCU project debuting another new hero in the MCU. Deadpool 3 raised fans’ expectations to a new level once Hugh Jackman announced Wolverine’s return and debut in the MCU.
In an interview with SiriusXM, Reynolds shared his delight at working with “two of his best friends” and shared that the 2024 film’s writing is right where he wants it for now.
The Canadian actor commented on how the team is “up to their necks” in prep and writing and how the most crucial part, the editing, is still to come even after filming wraps up.
I get to work with not one but two of my closest friends (Shawn Levy and Hugh Jackman) in that movie. And we are, quite literally, up to our necks right now in prep and still writing. The writing process for ‘Deadpool’ movies doesn’t really end until they take the film away from us. Literally, like they have to snatch the microphone out of my hand in the edit room.
Speaking of filming, the Deadpool actor also shared a window for when filming will start. Reynolds explains that shooting is the “easy part,” after which comes the more time-consuming part, the rewriting, editing, VFX, etc.
Production should start, hopefully, sometime just before summer. But the shooting is the short, easier part. Then it’s the lead-up, the prep, and the writing. The shootings are quick; then you have the editing process. That’s where the movie gets really made, the edit room.
Deadpool has been in the works for a decade, and Ryan’s commitment to the character, his accuracy to the comics, and his journey to the MCU are all positive signs for the fandom to expect a grand entry form the Merc with a Mouth in the MCU.
With the wonder team at work and Hugh also wrapped in the writing process, fans can rest easy that Deadpool 3 will be a big success once it hits theaters on November 8, 2024.
