Deadpool 3 Filming Starts without Ryan Reynolds’ Contribution to the Script

The shooting of the much-awaited Deadpool 3 has begun in London! The movie is scheduled to release in the United States on November 8, 2024, and will be the first film of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular character again, the movie features Wolverine recovering from his injuries when he crosses paths with the former. They team up to defeat a common enemy. Nothing more is known about the plot so far.

The filming of Deadpool 3 has begun amid the Writers Guild of America strike. Though the scripts are ready, the strike will affect the movie majorly. This is because Ryan Reynolds is legally not allowed to improvise his dialogues as he usually does.

1. Ryan Reynolds Cannot Bring his Witty Improvs to Deadpool 3

Ryan Reynolds acts as Deadpool in the Deadpool franchise

During the WGA strike for better working conditions for writers, only minimal work could be done on scripts. Thus, Ryan Reynolds, also a co-writer of the Deadpool franchise, will not be able to make creative changes to his dialogues.

Deadpool is known for the character’s witty one-liners and creative dialogues. Reynolds revealed that he had stepped up to create these dialogues by saying, “every line I have in the movie I just wrote myself.”

According to the 2020 WGA agreement, producers and directors are only allowed to make casual minor adjustments in dialogue and narration before or during principal photography. But this has not been applicable to the Free Guy star.

Most of Reynold’s improvisations to Deadpool’s dialogues happened during filming. Deadpool 1 and 2 showcased his comedic timing and wit.

However, Deadpool 3 will have to forego the actor’s additions to the script and character as he is legally not allowed to make any changes to the script while the strike is going on.

2. Why is the Writers Guild of America on strike?

2007-08 WGA strike

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike is an ongoing labor dispute, mainly regarding the residuals from streaming media and the use of artificial intelligence to replace human writers. It is the largest interruption to American TV and film production since CoViD-19.

Against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), the WGA strike is the largest labor stoppage for the organization since the 2007-08 strike.

The main focus point is that the AMPTP’s share of financial compensation from reruns, DVD releases, and the like of streaming media cuts much of the writers’ average incomes compared to a decade ago.

Another demand of the strike is that tools such as ChatGPT and others should be restricted. It should not be utilized to replace the writers’ efforts, talent, and profession.

The strike began on the eve of May 2 as negotiations with the AMPTP failed to reach a deal before the deadline. According to The Hollywood Reporter, writers cannot do any writing, revising, or pitching, with companies that are members of the AMPTP following the strike rules.

Any disobedience of the rules and regulations will result in punishment such as fines and even banishment from the Guild.

We will have to wait and see how this development will affect the film. Stay tuned to Cine Dope for the latest updates on Deadpool 3!
