Is Ruth Powers Back as The Simpsons’ Neighbor in Season 33?

Ruth Powers has not made an appearance in the last 18 seasons of The Simpsons. A tweet reveals that the character will be making a brief appearance in the upcoming Episode 4 of Season 33.

Pamela Reed will be reprising her voice role for the episode titled “The Wayz We Were” airing on October 17. The guest reveal was made by showrunner Al Jean who welcomed Reed back for the brief return.

There isn’t any special mention of what is in store for Ruth in this comeback appearance, but as for the episode itself, it entails Evergreen Terrace (the street that the Simpsons live on) being overrun by traffic. This leaves Moe with a “fateful choice to make.”

Ruth was introduced as one of the Simpson’s neighbors in Season 4’s “New Kid on the Block.” But towards the later parts of her appearances, she and daughter Laura were said to have moved out of Evergreen Terrace.

If Ruth is back in her old house on the street, the guest appearance is fitting to the traffic narrative that is sure to vex everyone living on Evergreen Terrace.

The image that Jean shared too depicts all the neighbors gathered together to hash it out. But noting from their expressions and The Simpsons’ usual ploy of elevating tension for comedic purposes… the discussion doesn’t seem to be going well.

Ruth Power in episode Marge on the Lam

Out of all of Ruth’s appearances, the most memorable one was in Season 5’s “Marge on the Lam,” where she and Marge bonded over a night of wild fun, parodying Thelma & Louise. Another fun narrative around the Powers family was Bart’s crush on Laura.

And apparently, fans have resonated with the Powers quite a bit as they have been requesting for a return. (However, Laura’s appearance on the episode has not been confirmed).

If you haven’t caught up with Episode 3 yet, you might want to give it a go before the Ruth Powers Episode 4. For the first time, the show expanded its Treehouse of Horror episode to include five segments instead of the usual three.

The titles are Barti (a parody of Bambi), Bong Joon Ho’s This Side of Parasite, Nightmare of Elm Tree, Poetic Interlude, and Dead Ringer.
