The long-awaited console version of Rust, developed by Facepunch Studios, has been rated by the ESRB. It has been rated for the PS4 and Xbox One but is yet to be rated for the next-gen consoles.
Facepunch Studios announced the console version of Rust in November 2019 during the XO19 conference. It was planned for release in 2020, but it had to be delayed.
The port studio Double Eleven shifted the release to 2021 in an update issued on their website in December 2020.
As the release of the console version of the game draws near, ESRB has released its rating of the game for the PS4 and Xbox One.
Rust’s console version has been rated ‘Mature’ (M) by the ESRB. Highly graphical depictions of violence have resulted in this rating.
The summary on ESRB’s website reads,
“This is a multiplayer first-person survival game in which players compete to survive in a hostile environment. Players explore the open-world environment, gather resources, create weapons, and defend themselves from wild animals and other players. Players can attack and kill enemies in genetic combat, with successful hits resulting in large splashes of blood. Players can keep shooting animals or humans on the ground accompanied by large blood-splatter effects.”

The main reason which contributed towards Rust getting a rating of M was its graphical depictions of violence. ESRB mentioned,
“Battles are highlighted by realistic gunfire and explosions. When human enemies are killed, they can be harvested for body parts and cooked for food.”

Rust has seen a resurgence in its popularity. Popular Twitch streamers like Myth, xQc, Shroud, and many others have brought the game into the spotlight. As a result, Rust has been setting records of most concurrent players on Steam.
