We all love live-action films. It brings our favorite characters, the ones we love reading about and watching animated versions of so much. As the characters take a human form, we feel more connected to them than books or anime. No wonder the Power Rangers franchise is such a hit.
On Wednesday 27th May, the official website of the live-action film series based on the Rurouni Kenshin manga created by Nobuhiro Watsuki made an announcement.
The announcement stated that the two films have been postponed to the next Golden Week holiday period, to the Spring of 2021. This delay is due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The two films, Rurouni Kenshin Saishūshō The Final and Rurouni Kenshin Saishūshō The Beginning which were originally slated for 3rd July and 7th August 2021 premiere, will now be released next year in early April or late May.
The director of the film, Keishi Otomo, stated that after the government declared a state of emergency, the studio was shut down and production was stopped. As a result of this, the post-production work of the film was left incomplete, and the staff couldn’t make any preparation for the releases. The new release date also gives them a chance to improve the quality of the films even more, according to Otomo.
The advance MoviTicke Card passes for the film are already being sold, but the sales will be stopped from Friday 29th May.
The website will provide information regarding the recommencement of the sales later. Those who already purchased the cards can still use them for the film launch next year.
Rurouni Kenshin Saishūshō The Final will be based on the manga’s Jinchu arc, which features Kenshin’s conflict with the mysterious weapons dealer Enishi while Rurouni Kenshin Saishūshō The Beginning is going to reveal the story of how Kenshin got his cross-shaped scar.
The Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal and Rurouni Kenshin: Reflection video anime projects adapted the same story arcs from the manga as the two upcoming live-action films.
The first live-action Rurouni Kenshin film premiered in 2012 in Japan, while the first two sequels were simultaneously shot in August and September 2014.
