Call of Duty is undoubtedly one of the biggest gaming franchises globally, with an annual release schedule that has become a staple in the gaming community. The games also see a lot of post-launch content in ways of maps, weapons, and more through DLC. However, now that method may change as a new Activision job posting hints at a possible subscription service rolling out for fans.
The listing can be found on the Activision Careers page. The creator of Warzone is looking to hire a Manager and Influencer Marketing role for Call of Duty. The post mentions a “lineup of innovations in curated player experiences, multi-platform gameplay, subscription-based content, mobile game development, and a move to always-on community and player connectivity.”
Titled “CoD 2.0”, fans may get the Call of Duty subscription service for future content before the end of 2022, according to the job listing.
We don’t have much information on what this subscription service could look like in terms of content or pricing. Some speculations suggest that the service could be similar to the Fortnite Crew Subscription. Others think it could follow along the lines of some form of Xbox Game Pass. This isn’t the first time we are hearing about a Call of Duty subscription service.
In June of 2021, rumors were floating around that Call of Duty was considering adding a 6-month/12-month Battle Pass service with the 12-month option possible, offering a free new Call of Duty title. We’ll have to wait and see if this service is in line with the requirements for the job posting.
Activision isn’t the only company that is exploring subscription-based offerings. Ubisoft and EA already offer content-based subscription services for their fans.
The Xbox Game Pass has been a hugely successful venture for Microsoft, and now Sony too is looking to revamp the PlayStation plus service to offer more content. Gaming companies will likely look at adopting subscription models in the coming future that go beyond the typical battle pass format.
For Activision, the idea of more Call of Duty content will likely be exciting for many fans, especially after rumors of the company moving away from the yearly mainline Call of Duty title release schedule (Activision themselves has denied this). Still, it will be interesting to see how a Call of Duty subscription service is received by the fans if one ever materializes.
About Call of Duty WWII: Vanguard
Call of Duty: Vanguard is an upcoming first-person shooter by Sledgehammer Games. The game will likely throw players into all the action in World War II, much like 2017’s Call of Duty: WWII. Currently, the game has no confirmed release date.
