“What just happened?” Yep, we’re all asking ourselves that, especially after that beater of an episode.
For a better understanding, let’s put it this way: Middle-earth has a lot of unfinished business, and the characters better get to it.
Here’s a detailed version!
How does Arondir Discover Adar’s Next Move?
The episodes start off with a narrow-eyed sequence with Arondir, the elven fighter, tracing down two orc renegades, thanks to his keen attention to detail and a growing suspicion about their activities.
This electrifying face-off leads to a fierce battle in the woods, where Arondir smoothly takes down the orcs. In an action sequence characteristic to the Lord of The Rings franchise, this fight in the forest was quite a cool spectacle to watch.
On one of the lying orc bodies, Arondir gets a map unfolding Adar’s plan. The nuance of this revelation pulls Arondir straightly into the escalating turmoil at Eregion, indicating a major breakthrough in the season. And now it falls upon the Arondir to take charge and get things going in the right order.
What is Sauron’s Role in Eregion?
For most part of the episode, it’s majorly about Celebrimbor and Eregion’s toil to establish the Nine Rings for men. Here, we watch Sauron (disguised as Annatar) expertly dominating the elven smiths. And now’s the time for a shift; a change; a revelation.
Guess what? The wardrobe shifts into grim and dark tones, and the one and only Sauron begins to unveil his true character, completely betraying Celebrimbor by convincing him to continue the creation of the rings. Hell of a manipulator, this guy.
With this plot set up well and good, Sauron lays down the foundation of his ultimate masterplan, highlighting his increasing command over Eregion’s fate.
It must be said that it’s not too far in the series that we might see a major crackdown led by berserk brains all over Middle-earth.
Why Does Galadriel Reluctantly Join Adar?
In a surprising twist, Galadriel, who is the captive of Adar, as seen in the previous episode, now finds herself in an edgy negotiation. Yep, that was DEFEINITELY a bad move.
Adar, who is building an army against Sauron, tries to convince Galadriel to join him. While Galadriel refuses initially, later on, she makes a bold move by disclosing the whereabouts of her Ring to Adar.
It’s curious to watch this, since no one expected Galadriel to team up on this edge of the spectrum. Little did she know, it was quite a blunder on her part.
This critical misstep enables Adar to prepare himself against the incoming attack from Eregion, believing he can now take down Sauron, with his dark energy at play.
Galadriel’s choice was an instrumental moment, showcasing her complex role in the power struggle that could possibly determine the fate of not just Middle-earth, but beyond as well.
Does Elendil Face Trial in Nùmenor?
Meanwhile, the Nùmenor subplot witnesses Elendil standing trial for treason before Ar-Pharazon. Elendil’s character, as always, has shown his unwavering loyalty towards Nùmenor true principles.
The same can be demonstrated when Elendir refused to recognize Ar-Pharazon as king. This aspect of the storyline adds depth to the island’s growing political agitation.
However, Elendil’s refusal to recognize Ar-Pharazon as the true king puts him at odds with his life. This was not quite the story that people wanted to believe, but it turns out that the creators of the show had a different plan in mind.
And no, the twists don’t stop here, dear. Gods be good, yet another twist from Mìriel at the sea trial, and the lady might just save her life!
What Happens to the Stranger and the Harfoots?
Fans are demanding more screen time for the Harfoots, while the cryptic Stranger gets a taste of their journey in this episode. Not-Gandalf, as the title given by the fans, proceeded his quest alongside Tom Bombadil, a fan-loved addition.
A sight of Nori in peril leads the stranger further into his voyage of conquering his powers. The Harfoots side of the storyline, while moving steadily, still manages to arouse a rigorous emotional core.
Nori’s search for belonging resonates deeply, especially as she and Poppy navigate their feelings for each other. Here’s where fans get a bit of a breather from all the battle and the broil, and a little bit of emotion rises to the crust. A kiss wouldn’t make matters worse, would it?
The love for Tolkien’s universe is going above and beyond in this much-awaited and highly-anticipated episode. Here’s to more twists!
