Over a decade has passed since a new Silent Hill movie came to the theaters. Not that they were very trendy, just another video game adaptation that didn’t take with the cinemagoers or the gaming fans. Nevertheless, the film franchise recently confirmed a third instalment was in the works, and now I can finally give you a filming update for the same.
Ashland Hill is producing the film titled Return to Silent Hill and has informed Deadline that shooting is ready to “get underway soon.” Vague, I know – but it’s the best we’ve gotten in months after the film was announced to be in development. The report includes that Victor Hadida and Molly Hassell will handle production and international sales.
The film series may not have been a great hit from its premiere in 2006, but it still has a cult following like most horror films. Based on the Konami’s survival horror game, the first film was written and directed by Christophe Gans, who returned for the 2012 sequel and was interested in fighting for a threequel.
The third film was confirmed in October last year, with Gans returning as writer and director. You can view the teaser trailer to Return to Silent Hill below:
The trailer gives us an insight into how the upcoming movie will resume from Silent Hill: Revelation’s events and focus on a young man returning to Silent Hill to find a love he lost long ago.
If the film kickstarts production in the first half of 2023, we can expect a late release date in 2024 for Return to Silent Hill. Would you be willing to return to the terror town when it hits theaters eventually?
