RetroCrush, formerly a Youtube channel uploading video clips of classic anime, took a big leap and upgraded to a streaming service in March 2020.
News of a Youtube channel upgrading to a paid video on demand (VOD) service and competing with streaming giants such as Netflix and Hulu attracted a lot of attention. The service started off with some hot and classic anime such as Street Fighter 2, Card Captor Sakura and Dragon Ball.
Digital Media Rights, the parent company of AsianCrush, Midnight Pulp, and RetroCrush announced on Thursday that it has partnered with Tezuka Productions to release 9 more anime titles on RetroCrush from June 5.
The type of services acquired includes SVOD (subscription video on demand), TVOD (transactional VOD), and AVOD (advertising-based VOD) for the US and Canada region.
The titles include:
- Astro Boy (1980, 52 episodes)
- BlackJack (1993 OVA, 12 episodes including Black Jack Final) – June 5
- Ambassador Magma (1993 OVA, 13 episodes)
- A Time Slip of 10000 Years: Prime Rose (1993 film) – June 5
- Undersea Super Train: Marine Express (1979 film) – June 26
- One Million-Year Trip: Bander Book (1978 film)
- Dear Brother (1991, 39 episodes)
- Jungle Emperor – The Brave Changes the Future (Jungle Emperor Leo, 2009 film) – June 19
- Moby Dick – Great Whale in Space (Hakugei: Legend of the Moby Dick, 1997, 26 episodes)
Black Jack and A Time Slip of 10000 Years: Primrose will launch on day 1, and the remaining titles will premiere between June to August.
