A new trailer for Resident: Death Island is out now, and it features three iconic characters of the franchise, Leon, Chris and Jill together for the first time. The trailer also gives us the first glimpse at the titular death island, Alcatraz.
The franchise has three films till now, namely Resident Evil: Degeneration, Resident Evil: Damnation, and Resident Evil: Vendetta. It is based on Capcom’s survival-horror video game and Resident Evil: Death Island will be the fourth film of the franchise.
The 30-seconds-long trailer gives us a glimpse of what to expect from the animated film and features Jill Valentine, Leon S. Kennedy, and Chris Redfield together for the first time. We will see Jill and Leon interact for the first time in this film as well. Check out the trailer here –
The short trailer keeps most of the plot’s details under the wraps and includes very little dialogue. This keeps the hype and suspense intact. The film will be a direct sequel to the third film in the franchise, Vendetta.
Death Island follows Leon, who tries to save a kidnapped doctor when his plans are subverted by an unknown mysterious woman. Chris, on the other hand, tries to find the cause behind a sudden outbreak of infections on the West Coast. The infection is likely to have originated in Alcatraz Island, which is the titular death island in the film.
The film has a lot of popular names from the world of anime associated with it. It is directed by Eiichiro Hasumi of Assassination Classroom fame, while the screenplay is written by Makoto Fukami, known for his work in the anime Psycho Pass.
The film is supposed to arrive in summer 2023 according to the trailer, but no official release date has been announced yet. Since Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is distributing the film worldwide, it will most likely receive a huge theatrical boost, particularly in the US. Let’s hope that the film lives up to our expectations!
