Kuma’s life after the God Valley Incident is revealed in chapter 1097 of One Piece titled “Ginny.”

After reaching Sorbet Kingdom, Kuma and Ginny spend decades growing and helping the villagers around them. The entire town loves them as Kuma spends his weekends healing their injuries. Meanwhile, an evil King presides over the Kingdom.

I. Kuma Sacrifices Himself

In the present time, we are still unsure whether Ginny was killed or not. After her capture, Kuma most likely took his own hands to rescue her. However, brute force will not work against the World Government. It would be very fitting for Kuma’s character to let himself be experimented on in exchange for Ginny’s safety.

II. Bonney’s Involvement

Bonney has not yet been mentioned in Kuma’s backstory, but she is a vital character involved in Kuma’s life. Since he rejected Ginny’s proposal and didn’t want to start a family, the fact that Bonney exists is also surprising. She could be Kuma’s nonbiological daughter or an orphan, while more far-fetched theories say Ginny is Bonney.

4. Chapter 1097 Recap

Eight years after the God Valley incident, a 17-year-old Kuma lives peacefully in the Sorbet Kingdom. He uses his power to push the pain out of people, and the villagers are glad to have him. Ginny interrupts them and says he can only do this on Sundays since they don’t even pay Kuma.

The people are glad to see Kuma’s face, which calms them down. They say that they will pay, but the Heavenly Tribute makes it difficult for them even to survive. The new king, Bekori, is known for being cold-blooded and thinks about nothing but the Celestial Dragons.

After all the people leave, Kuma takes the bubble of pain and sickness into his own body. Blood comes from his nose and mouth, and Ginny cries, saying that nobody knows that he does all of this for them. Kuma says unless he takes it in, it will return to the person. They get some food and feast for the night. After five years, Ginny proposes to Kuma, asking him if he loves her. He rejects her because of his Buccaneer blood; Kuma doesn’t want Ginny to suffer like he did. He changes the topic and points out the Freedom Fighters and worldwide protests.

Kuma also notices Monkey D. Dragon, whom he admires and wants to be like. Three years later, Kuma demands that the Kingdom return the people they kidnapped. The soldiers refuse, saying that the law says they can do whatever they see fit. Kuma is enraged and attacks them, getting labeled a traitor.

After he gets arrested, Ginny and the others also run protests to help but get thrown in the same cell. King Bekori splits the Kingdom into two, the Northern being the true Kingdom and the Southern being a lawless wasteland.

Eventually, the Freedom Fighters invade Sorbet and dispose of Bekori, thus abolishing the slave policy. Dragon and Ivankov find Kuma locked up and frees them. Ivankov invites him to join them to help change the world, and the three go on to reform the Freedom Fighters as the Revolutionary Army.

Their small protests turn into significant rebellions, and they also became mercenaries for other revolutions to build funds. Dragon trains anyone who joins the team, which surprises Kuma. He explains that he once served the Marines but quit due to the lack of justice.

Kuma proclaims his loyalty to Dragon, which he gladly accepts. Eight years later, Ginny, who also joined the army and was raised as Captain of the Eastern unit, gets captured.
