Sword Man convinces Denji to join the Chainsaw Man Church in chapter 139 of Chainsaw Man, titled “A Chair’s Feelings.”

Once again, we saw Denji letting his self-respect go to the trash for the sake of a girl. Seeing Denji acting the same way for so many chapters is getting quite frustrating.

We all know it is just a way of showing how hopeless of a case Denji is, but seeing him simping over any girl he meets, going to lengths, and acting like a fool just to get some women is getting repetitive and exhausting now.

It’s time he gets some serious character development and gains something more as a character trait than just being a very horny boy.

Denji and Sugo will go to the church to enroll Denji in chapter 140 of Chainsaw Man.

I. Denji goes to the Church

The story has taken an interesting turn as the Chainsaw Man himself is joining the Chainsaw Man Church as a regular member. I am excited to see where the story will head from here on.

Many fans hope they will see Reze again in the church. Denji will probably just have a walkthrough of the church and a genuine meet and greet with the top brass of the community.

However, what makes this interesting is most of the top brass are weapons, so they are all people who can turn into devils. So, the thought of Denji meeting Reze again might not be a far-off dream.

II. The Consequences

The consequences of Denji joining the church might be drastic and widespread. Hirofumi will object to him joining the church, and we can’t ignore Nayuta. She, too, won’t like the idea of Denji joining the church as she doesn’t want to see him with any other girl.

We can’t yet conclude what will happen after this major turn of events. However, something very serious and threatening might be taking its shape off-screen.

Sword Man continues with his attempt to remind Denji of him, but the latter refuses to remember. He mentions the fight Denji had with Makima, but Denji tells him it wasn’t him and leaves for school.

In school, Sword Man transfers to Denji’s class. He introduces himself as Miri Sugo and tells everyone not to talk to him. Unfortunately, he gets surrounded by students wanting to talk to him.

His being in class doesn’t sit well with Denji. Later on the roof, Sugo tells Denji that he wants to have a private chat. They are not alone, as Mifune is sitting on Denji, and Sugo doesn’t want her to be there.

Sugo ignores her, says he is there as a Chainsaw Man Church messenger, and tells him to join Denji. He is part of the Weapons community, which comprises of people who can turn into devils.

He tells Denji that he will be offered a high position. Mifune objects saying they should make Denji the church’s leader. Only then will the offer look feasible.

Just like this, whatever benefits Sugo tells Denji about the church, Mifune brings in a counter for it, and Denji always agrees with the girl.

Sugo goes into monologue mode and tells Denji how joining the church has made him free, and he promises Denji that he will protect him from Public Safety and Mifune.

       

Mifune asks him if he is really being free or being taken advantage of as he transferred schools to convince Denji to join the church. He says he is doing this out of his free will and doesn’t like that Denji is being used as a chair.

Denji objects saying chairs are content in their own way. He tells Sugo that he is happy with his normal life and doesn’t want to join the church. Sugo gets frustrated and starts leaving, saying he didn’t join the school only to recruit him but also to be friends.

Denji was the one who killed Makima and freed him, so he was grateful for that. While leaving, he says that Denji could sleep with all the women he wants if he had joined.

Denji is left shocked after hearing this. As Sugo heads down, he finds Denji near the stairs. Denji agrees that he, too, has been a tool to others, so now he has decided to join the church.

Chainsaw Man is a manga series by Tatsuki Fujimoto that was serialized from December 2018-2020 and returned in July 2022 with a second part. The series also received an anime series by MAPPA.

The manga’s plot revolves around Denji, an orphaned boy who has to work as a devil hunter to make a living and pay off his father’s debt.

However, his pet devil, Pochita is killed on a mission. Denji wakes up to realize he and Pochita have become a single being, Chainsaw Man. If he does not want to get killed, he has to join the government and continue hunting demons.
