Chainsaw Man Chapter 139: Release Date, Speculations, Read Online

Sword Man shows up in front of Denji while the latter fails to recognize him in chapter 138 of Chainsaw Man, titled “Sword Man.”

Well, Denji is probably one of the few people who didn’t recognize him, as a lot of fans got excited after seeing the human-devil hybrid back in the manga. He was a minor antagonist back during the Control Devil Arc.

Now, it seems like he will be playing a major part in the story. However, the most interesting thing to happen was that the girl with Denji turned out to be his bodyguard assigned by Hirofumi, and her name is Fumiko Mifune.

Sword Man will try to strike a friendship with a disinterested Denji in chapter 139 of Chainsaw Man.

I. Sword Man is Back

A lot of fans are excited about his return as Sword Man returning means Reze might be alive too. It is all just speculation. This entry was so random and unexpected, and we have no hint or idea of anything that happened to these hybrids after that arc.

If Reze is alive, it will create havoc in the community, and everyone will go crazy. This arc is slowly getting more and more interesting with these new entries, and I am eager to see where it all goes.

II. The Case of Fumiko Mifune

The new girl turned out to be Denji’s bodyguard. However, she did little help to protect Denji from all the goons. Still, she is as mysterious as they come, and we didn’t get even a hint of any ulterior motive from her.

I think there is more to this bodyguard thing. We didn’t see her with Denji while he was talking to Sword Man. I wonder what will be Nayuta’s reaction to Denji having a girl bodyguard.

It’s still too soon for Denji to trust her, but some flirtatious words from a girl are enough for him to fall for them.   

4. Chapter 138 Recap

Denji prepares to face the girl. She rushes at him but instead hits a guy about to fire a gun. It turns out that she is not there to attack or kill him. Denji is shocked to know she is not his enemy.

Hirofumi shows up out of nowhere and tells him that her name is Fumiko Mifune. She is a member of the Public Safety Devil Extermination Special 7 and has been sent to protect Denji and look after him.

All this is hard for Denji to believe as she never stopped singing throughout the duration of his battle with the goons. When Hirofumi asks her the reason, she says that she doesn’t like her singing to get interrupted.

Hirofumi explains to him why he assigned a bodyguard to Denji. Fumiko tells Denji that she is impressed he can fight so well, even without his devil powers. She calls him cool, but he is not impressed.

She tells him that she is really into him as he is the one and only Chainsaw Man. Just as expected, he immediately forgets his anger after hearing this. Hirofumi tells Denji that he will get her straight.

Asa lies down in her room, staring at the television, talking about her. Yoru says that she feels like her thirst has been quenched by this recognition. Asa reminds her that they are doing this to save Chainsaw Man.

She goes on to say that she doesn’t feel great about this fame as it is like a breach of privacy, and it creeps her out. However, after seeing her face on television, she makes a strange smiling face.

Denji is looking at a poster of Asa with a disappointed face when a stranger starts talking to him. The stranger blabbers on about Asa. Denji wonders why strangers have started talking to him lately.

The stranger is shocked Denji doesn’t recognize him. He tells Denji that he ought to know him. He takes off his hoody and introduces himself as Sword Man. Denji still looks disappointed and disinterested, begging the question of who the guy is.

Chainsaw Man is a manga series by Tatsuki Fujimoto that was serialized from December 2018-2020 and returned in July 2022 with a second part. The series also received an anime series by MAPPA.

The manga’s plot revolves around Denji, an orphaned boy who has to work as a devil hunter to make a living and pay off his father’s debt.

However, his pet devil, Pochita is killed on a mission. Denji wakes up to realize he and Pochita have become a single being, Chainsaw Man. If he does not want to get killed, he has to join the government and continue hunting demons.
