More than a year after the successful debut of the show, a video for Reacher season 2 has been released, announcing the completion of filming for the next chapter.
The Prime Video series is the second adaptation of Lee Child’s action-crime novels, and stars Alan Ritchson as the former U.S. Army military policeman embroiled in various conspiracies. Thanks to its adherence to the source material and impressive acting, Reacher was well-received, earning a season 2 renewal just three days after its initial release.
The official Twitter account for Prime Video has announced that the filming for Reacher season 2 is now complete. Check out the official announcement video here –
In the official video announcement featuring Alan Ritchson, the actor appears battered and bruised from his time filming the show. Despite his injuries, Ritchson seems upbeat and enthusiastic about the upcoming season, even jokingly referencing his character’s height by standing beside an oversized clapboard.
While the Jack Reacher movies starring Tom Cruise received mixed reviews from critics, the Reacher TV show surpassed its predecessors in numerous ways from the very beginning. One of the most significant factors, which is playfully referenced in the wrap video for Reacher season 2, is the height difference between Cruise and the new lead actor Ritchson.
Cruise, who played the character in the films, fell short of the 6’5″ description of the character in the books by nearly a foot, while Ritchson stands at 6’2″, coming closer to the original physical description.
Showrunner Nick Santora’s decision to stay true to the source material in Reacher season 1 was another significant factor that was well-received by fans. Unlike the Tom Cruise movies, which deviated from the original novels, the show’s first season was based on the book “Killing Floor”.
The series format allowed for a deeper exploration of the source material and provided the writers with the opportunity to showcase some of the more distinctive elements of the books, including Reacher’s minimal dialogue with other characters. While the novels often featured an inner monologue from the character, the show opted to have him verbalize his thoughts, albeit not without some deviation from Child’s books.
While the first season of Reacher was highly acclaimed, season 2 is set to take some daring steps. The show will be adapting the eleventh book in the series, Bad Luck and Trouble, rather than continuing with the next book in sequence.
Additionally, only a few of the original cast members will be returning, with fan favorites Willa Fitzgerald and Malcolm Goodwin being absent. However, the upcoming season is expected to delve deeper into the relationship between Reacher and Neagley, providing viewers with plenty of thrilling new content when the show returns in late 2023.
