From the opening and ending themes, it’s pretty clear that Shuugo will agree to try water polo. A professional swimmer like him is definitely an invaluable asset for Yamanami High to reach nationals in water polo.
However, this won’t solve all their problems. Most of the new recruits are completely new in this sport, and Minato, who was once a prodigy, barely remembers the rules.
Thus, their only option is to start from scratch and train hard. Minato’s priority should be working on his body and his swimming technique. He can’t

3. Episode 2 Recap
I. An Absurd Bet
Episode 2 picks up right from where the first episode ended, Chinu surprises Minato with a kiss on his cheeks. Before he could assume anything, Chinu clarifies that it was all a part of a reckless bet that they agreed upon in their middle school days.
According to this bet, Minato and Chinu will date each other if he manages to become Japan’s no. 1 in water polo. If case he fails, Minato must pay her a huge amount of 220,000 yen.
She even gets mad at him when he agrees to pay. So, the option he had is to rush back to Jou Jimajou senpai and fill-up the form for club membership.
II. Recruiting New Members
Jou takes advantage of his popularity and tries to recruit new members with fake promises of reaching the nations. This tactic works out pretty well till Minasto declares about his current situation, thereby explaining how he has completely forgotten the rules of this game.
Most of the students leave immediately after this sudden revelation, but surprisingly two freshers stood there even when everyone is gone. (This reminded me of the way Sasha, Jean, and Connie got into the Survey Corps when Erwin came to recruit members.)
Later, Eiji Takekazu voluntarily steps up to join the club. He is a former baseball player who has failed to shine in that sport, so he is trying out water polo, hoping to make a mark in this minor sport.
III. A Friendly Challange
Eija bluntly demands the keeper’s position to which Joe had to disagree since he is a professional keeper himself. With no other option left, Eiji challenges his senpai for a penalty knock.
The friendly challenge more or less clarifies that Joe isn’t just all talk; he is exceptional at the keeper’s position. Joe gets disheartened and apologises for taking water polo so lightly.
He was about to quit the sport right away, but Joe bows before him, requesting him to give them an opportunity to play as a team of seven. He explained how much effort he gave, hoping new members will join.
With that, the sixth member of Yamanami High’s water polo club is confirmed. Will they get one more player to make the club official again? We have to wait for the next episode to find that out.
