From Chinu’s actions, it’s clear that she used to know Minato pretty well, and is well aware of how much water polo meant to him. She will try her best to bring him back to the sport.
However, Minato doesn’t even remember the rules of playing water polo anymore. So, he may have to start learning about it from the basics, and he will discover that he is surprisingly good at it.

Since this anime runs on a weekly schedule, new episode releases are seven days apart.

3. Episode 1 Recap
In Episode 1, Minato wakes up from his 203 days of sleep. He fell into coma after a tragic car accident, and everyone feared if he will ever wake up.
However, everything isn’t the same as before. He has completely forgotten about the last three years of his life, as if he woke up right after his junior high days.
He is told that he used to be a professional water polo player in his middle school. He even won the nationals with his school team, but he hardly remembers any of it.
Later, his water polo teammates and his former coach come to meet him, but he fails to recognize any of them. His condition is so bad that he doesn’t even remember the rules of water polo.
But the spark in those unfamiliar faces made one thing clear that water polo was something precious to him.
Coming back to his home after three months of rehab, he feels that his family was struck on the day of his accident. His little sister has grown a lot mature, but the memories of the accident still scare her.
He doesn’t want to bother his family anymore, so he starts studying hard to get admission to a decent high school.
He somewhat manages to do so and enters the Yamanami High School, which is right next to the prestigious Rikka Gakuen Acadamy.
Just when he thought of starting over, he keeps coming across people related to water polo.
From his junior, Oka Eitaro, who joined this school just for him, to the school water polo club leader, everyone tries to bing him back to water polo.
Lastly, he meets Chinu Kawakubo, who surprises him with a sudden kiss on his cheeks. He remembers that she is the same girl that he saw in the magazine.
Can she change Minato’s decision about not trying water polo again? We have to wait for the next episode to find that out.

RE-MAIN is an original water polo anime by MAPPA studio, and it will premiere in 2021. Kiyoshi Matsuda is directing the anime, and Shiho Tanaka is taking care of character designs.
Minato Kiyomizu, the protagonist of the story, had to leave competitive water polo in his middle school’s third year due to a traumatic incident. When he enters high school, he starts playing again while building up his own team.
