AMD Expects 50%+ Better Performance from RDNA3; Confirms RDNA4 by 2024

AMD’s Financial Analyst Day 2022 was an exciting event headed by Dr. Lisa Su(CEO) and AMD’s leadership team members.

The presentations highlighted the company’s holistic strategy for the coming years, technology and product roadmaps, and gross sales targets.

David Wang, senior VP at AMD, headed the talk on the company’s future outlook regarding upcoming GPU designs, mainly RDNA/CDNA updates.

AMD’s RDNA 3

AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture is expected to deliver over 50% improved performance per watt compared to the RDNA2. Compared with NVIDIA’s Ampere series, the RDNA2 GPUs are more efficient, so there is no doubt that the new architecture will put AMD on the top.

AMD also confirmed the rumors regarding the company’s advanced chipset packaging– it will debut in the next-gen consumer gaming architecture, consisting of a wholly redesigned CU and a modified graphics model.

While the cooler design for the chipsets remains undisclosed, we have an estimated release window. The RDNA3 will be launched along with the Navi 3X GPUs by the end of this year.

AMD Gaming GPU Architecture Roadmap

The RDNA4 architecture will be launched by 2024, around the same time Zen 5 is expected to launch.

Even though AMD was careful not to indulge in too many details, for now, it is confirmed that an advanced node will be used.

AMD CDNA 3

At last, AMD has confirmed its CDNA3 architecture will be the first-generation exascale APU design. It will be constructed by integrating CPU and GPU chipsets into a single package.

Although the CPU to be used is undisclosed, AMD plans to release the new design for the Instinct MI300 series by next year.

Overall, the event was pretty insightful. We can expect a new era of technological advancements and successes. The next release for AMD is the Ryzen 7000 series, scheduled to launch in the Fall of 2022. The lineup is based on Zen 4 architecture and features the new AM5 platform.
