Martin Gero, the showrunner of Quantum Leap, has announced that the second season of the reboot will follow a similar format as the original series.
Quantum Leap is a sci-fi drama based on the 1989 show created by Donald P. Bellisario, which explores the adventures of a time-traveling physicist. The reboot, which premiered in 2022, features Dr. Ben Song as the protagonist, who restarts the Quantum Leap project after 30 years and attempts to unravel the secrets behind the device and its inventor.
In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Quantum Leap showrunner Martin Gero shared his plans for the second season of the reboot. He revealed that the upcoming season will adopt a similar structure as the original series, and explained how it will contrast with the first season. His full statement is as follows:
“We want to take our incredible cast and give them the ability to do more, so for us closing the loop on the mythological questions, like ‘why did he leap?,’ lets us have the serialized elements be more in the emotional space in season 2 as opposed to the heavy plot space.”
What We Know So Far About Quantum Leap Season 2
Quantum Leap season 2 will debut on October 4. The show was renewed shortly after its first season premiered last year, demonstrating NBC’s commitment to the project. Moreover, Quantum Leap will change its time slot for the new season. It used to air at 9:00 PM, but it will now air at 8:00 PM, a move that could boost its ratings. The show was well-received to earn a second season, but it did not achieve a remarkable success.
Quantum Leap season 2 will feature the return of the original cast members Raymond Lee, Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, and Nanrisa Lee.
The show will also welcome new additions such as Eliza Taylor, Peter Gadiot, and Melissa Roxburgh. Despite the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that have delayed many fall shows, Quantum Leap was able to resume production in early 2023 and has several episodes ready for release.
The plot details for the upcoming season are still under wraps. However, based on the events of the first season and the new Quantum Leap trailer, which shows some of the future leaps for Ben and a scene where he reveals the Quantum Leap project to a new character named Hannah Carson (Taylor), the show promises to deliver plenty of excitement. With a new format that follows the original series more closely, Quantum Leap is not afraid to explore new possibilities.
