PS5’s Second Firmware Update Improves the Console’s Performance

The PlayStation 5 has received its second firmware update, and from the looks of it, the update’s primary focus is to improve the system’s stability.

Anyone who knows anything about the spectrum of gaming knows what a month it has been. From the launch of Xbox Series Consoles and the PlayStation 5 to the delay and releases of some of the most beloved titles, it’s been one heck of a ride.

Not to mention, the last few weeks have probably been the most hectic for anyone that’s been retailing in the new consoles, and for us as well, seeing how the consoles have been selling like hotcakes and are pretty much out of stock everywhere at the time of writing.

But, as it stands, both consoles are not without their fair share of problems. However, the problems each of them faced were a little different.

Where Xbox had people blowing vape smoke into the Series X to claim that the console had burst into flames, PS5 users had been reporting several strange changes from the previous consoles and other problems during the initial weeks of the console.

Of course, all the problems were pretty much ironed out when Sony released the first firmware update for the PlayStation 5, revealing nothing more than system performance improvements.

Now, with the second firmware update (v20.02-2.26) as well, Sony still hasn’t revealed anything more than performance improvements to the system. Here’s what the changelog for the update says:

  • This system software update improves system performance.
  • An issue where installed disc versions of games were sometimes deleted was resolved.
  • An issue that prevented the PS5 wireless controller from being charged while in rest mode when connected to the PS5’s front side USB Type-A port using the USB cable included with some PS5 consoles was resolved.

Anyhow, one can safely say that the users are still pretty relieved to see the system becoming more stable with the update, seeing as how the console has been causing many problems for everyone, ranging from games being automatically queued for download, problems caused after the console has been put in rest mode, and in some cases, inserted discs spinning even when the game is not being played.

That said, right now, the PlayStation 5 still has a ton of issues that needs fixing, but considering how Sony has been hard at work on fixing all these problems, all the issues with the console will probably be fixed in a short while.
