Sir Sean Connery, one of the most charismatic actors of the English film industry, passed away on 31st October due to old age. The actor had a 50-year-long career in Hollywood, during which he starred as the first-ever James Bond on screen and became an international heartthrob and an inspiration for many.
Connery’s life is similar to a Hollywood story. Before he joined the industry, his background was quite removed from the starry lives of actors. During his teenage years in Scotland, his first job was as a milkman. He joined the Royal Navy at the age of 16 and was discharged three years later. While in the navy, the actor became interested in bodybuilding, which would later become a great contributor to his success in Hollywood.
Although his acting career began on stage, the Scottish actor’s big breakthrough came when he was cast as Ian Fleming’s suave secret agent James Bond. Although many stellar actors have portrayed the same role later, not many could match his portrayal. He infused a certain wittiness in Bond’s Casanova attitude, a quality for which he remains to be the #1 Bond in the hearts of many.
Sean Connery’s most famous role might have been James Bond but his range was by no means limited to that role. In 1962, he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Jimmy Malone in the crime drama The Untouchables. He also showed his comedic prowess as Professor Henry Jones, father of Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones in The Last Crusade.
In 2000, he was knighted by the Queen of England. Four years later, he retired from his acting career.
To this day, his wit and class have swayed countless people. He lent every role a unique touch that will forever be missed.
