Producers Flynn and Garcia Talk About Red Notice Sequels

Producers Beau Flynn and Hiram Garcia delivered an exciting update about the two upcoming sequels to the action-comedy film Red Notice.

The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds, and Ritu Arya. It follows FBI agent John Hartley (Johnson), who teams up with an infamous art thief, Nolan Booth (Reynolds), to stop an even more notorious art thief, Sara Black (Gadot).

All three individuals’ ulterior motives are very different from what it seems to be. The mixed-to-negative reviews the film received from its critics did not stop it from drawing in an enormous audience.

It set a record on its opening day itself by gaining more viewership than a film ever had on its opening day. It ultimately became the most-watched film on Netflix within 28 days of its release.

Talks about potential sequels to Red Notice started among fans even before its release. After the film’s incredible success, two sequels were greenlit by the producers to be shot back-to-back.

In an interview with Collider, producers Flynn and Garcia gave updates on the sequels.

Well, we have a ‘Red Notice 2’ script and almost [Red Notice] 3. The plan is, hopefully, if Hiram and I have of our way that we would make those movies back to back. But it’s going to be all about the scripts and how we feel and how Dwayne, Gal, and Ryan feel about them. But that franchise is a blast, and obviously, Netflix really wants it, and Rawson [Marshall Thurber, director and screenwriter] is committed.

Yeah, Rawson (Marshall Thurber) is working away, and we were just talking to him about it the other day. He’s deep in it, and that’s his baby. So, he’s grinded away. We’re excited to be able to get into it and see a new draft that he’s about to deliver us to us very soon.

The scripts for the sequels have already been finalized. We can expect that new details will surface soon as shooting begins. So far, we know that the central trio (Johnson, Reynolds, and Gadot) will likely return for both sequels.

They will likely be working together for more complicated heists and all will be fugitives with red notices over their heads.

The Louvre Museum in Paris will likely be the target for the trio in Red Notice 2, as that was where the first movie ended. Red Notice 3 will likely pick up from where the second part will end. So, it isn’t easy to comment on its plot without watching Red Notice 2.

The release dates of the upcoming sequels are challenging to predict so early in the process. It depends on how the cast and crew feel about the script. The script could take some more polishing before getting finalized.

However, with the confirmation that the entire cast is on board with the sequel’s making, development could happen rapidly once the script is finalized.

If the production of the Red Notice sequel happens smoothly, viewers could expect Red Notice 2 as early as the 2023 holiday season.
