Get ready for Citadel, the new spy thriller that will blow your mind on Prime Video. The show stars some of the biggest names in Hollywood and takes you on a global adventure.
The masterminds behind the series are Joe and Anthony Russo, who have proven their skills in creating epic and explosive stories with Captain America: Winter Soldier and the final two Avengers movies.
Citadel season 1 is the first of many spin-offs to come, and it follows the exciting adventures of Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) and Mason Kane (Richard Madden). They are a badass team of spies for a covert group called “Citadel,” but their lives are turned upside down when they are betrayed and lose their memories and their mission.
The series begins with the two agents reuniting to fight for what’s right, and they are supported by some of the best actors in the industry, such as Stanley Tucci and Lesley Manville.
Chopra and Russo shared with Screen Rant their ambitious plans for the Citadel universe, the many challenges and surprises of playing Nadia, and the secret sauce that makes Chopra and Richard Madden sizzle on screen.
In a question asking Chopra about the various layers of Nadia and the core of her being, the actress opened up about her feelings while portraying Nadia on screen. Here’s what she said –
I think the core of her being is that she is, in her head, always trying to do right by her job, her responsibility, and her family. She has a sense of morality that’s her own, and that could be amoral, but she justifies it to herself. I think she operates in gray, and she’s okay with that.
In fact, all the characters operate in gray, not just by the nature of their jobs, but as human beings. They’re okay with living in blurred lines. She’s very interesting, and I feel like Nadia is not someone who needs anybody else. She might want people in her life, but she’s a sole operator. She can survive alone, and that’s a very solitary life.

Joe Russo, the creator of Citadel, also spoke extensively about his future plans with the Citadel franchise. Joe Russo answered SR’s question about how global the franchise plans to be and how it is woven into the first season. Read Russo’s comments from the interview –
It’s intrinsic to the whole concept of the show. Jennifer Salke pitched us the idea originally, and she runs Prime. Her idea was, “Look, I want to make a show that has a US flagship, and that can splinter off into regional shows made with talent from those regions in those local languages.” The whole concept behind the show was to tell a global story; to create a community of diverse artists from around the world working together to build a universe and an original story.
It’s woven throughout the DNA of the show, ad it’s also intrinsic to the story, because these are global spies, and they’re on a chase around the world. You do certainly get that travelogue element that goes along with the spy genre. I think hopefully we subvert it and surprise you in different ways. There are a lot of twists and turns in the show, and you have to really pay attention to keep up with it.

Priyanka Chopra has a titillating chemistry with her co-star Richard Madden on Citadel. On being asked about that “push and pull”, Chopra shared her experience on working with Richard and how it translates into incredible chemistry on screen. Here’s what Chopra said about her chemistry with Madden –
Actually, working with Richard on set is really wonderful because he is an extremely prepared actor. He loves spending time really thinking about why his character is making the choices that they are, and he not just does it for himself, but he does it for all the characters associated with him.
We kind of built this trust very early on, where we could check each other or correct or inform each other of what our characters are doing without having any ego or pride. We knew we were both two parts of a whole on the show. And as soon as we had that clarity, it just became so fun to kind of dance with him. Because we both protected each other, just like Nadia and Mason did.
