Amazon Studios takes the first step toward creating a Tomb Raider universe under Prime Video as they add an untitled film in the works side-by-side with Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s series. The series written by Waller-Bridge, the developing movie, and a new game from Crystal Dynamics will form a new inter-connected Tomb Raider universe and franchise.
Amazon Studios plans to make the Tomb Raider franchise as big as the MCU spanning cinema and games and has even invested a budget close to what it set aside for LOTR.
The Hollywood Reporter’s report states that the media company bought the rights to the film this month, and we hope this film adaptation will have better luck than other Lara Croft films.
Waller-Bridge has signed on to write the series but will neither be starring in the TV series nor is in the film in any capacity as of now. The updates for the film and series are slow coming since it was only recently publicized, but Amazon is putting high hopes upon this Tomb Raider universe.
Lara Croft’s Tomb Raider has tried her luck on the big screens before, only to turn in average or disappointing reviews and box office ratings. While we’re hoping the third time’s the charm, Amazon Studios is putting in the big bucks into turning this mass media franchise into a severe competitor of the MCU & DCU.
Updates about the Tomb Raider franchise and its recipients will be slow coming since they are currently in development, but we’ll keep you posted.
