Prime Video released a new behind-the-scenes clip from The Boys season 3 revealing some interesting parallels between Billy Butcher and Homelander’s journey.
One of the most important aspects of The Boys since it premiered in 2019 has been the ongoing conflict between Billy Butcher and Homelander. Butcher finally got hold of a compound that gave him temporary superpowers in season 3 and enabled him to go after the incredibly powerful Homelander.
Butcher’s powers seemed quite similar to Homelander’s superpowers, which indicates that the two have more in common than we think. Prime Video recently released a behind-the-scenes video from The Boys season 3 which hints at a clear parallel between Butcher’s and Homelander’s journey.
Anthony Starr himself mentions in the video that Homelander and Billy Butcher have been on a “parallel journey” on their “quest for power”. The video includes side-by-side clips from season 3 to explain the same.
The Boys depicted how absolute power took the better of Homelander, and Butcher too felt overwhelmed by his temporary superpowers in the same way. If we consider that The Boys is gradually setting up Homelander’s death, Billy Butcher can become the next main antagonist in the series.
Butcher has always been portrayed as a gray character who is at the edge of good and bad, but he never crossed the line till now. However, season 3 saw his body giving up on him and his power being depleted, so we can never give up on the possibility of Butcher crossing the line.
The Boys season 4 will most likely premiere in the fall of 2024, which gives Billy Butcher some time to cope with his diagnosis. Season 4 will also see the return of important characters such as Soldier Boy, Victoria Neuman, The Boys’ standard members, the Seven heroes, and Ashley Barrett.
Though Homelander will also return in season 4, the season 3 finale makes it clear that Victoria Neuman will be taking over as the main antagonist in the next season. Moreover, the Seven will most likely recruit a new Black Noir to take up the mantle after the original Black Noir’s death.
Let’s hope The Boys season 4 will have a lot in store for us!
About The Boys
The Boys is an American satirical superhero streaming television series developed by Eric Kripke for Prime Video. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which was originally published by DC Comics under their Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment, it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they combat superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities.
The show is a satirical take on the superhero genre and showcases a world where superheroes are corporatized and controlled by companies. What happens when these superheroes step out of line and rub some boys the wrong way, is the story.
